I COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT HER.

IT was a rare no-storm day, meaning no one had anything to do but hang around the motel and the bar across the street. There wasn't exactly much interesting to do in the area of Oklahoma that they were in.

At the very least, DJ had Daisy. She was beside the motel, sitting on a patch of grass and throwing Daisy's favorite toy — a squeaky octopus — for her to chase after and bring back excitedly. And every time, when Daisy brought it back, DJ would have to fight to get the toy out of her mouth as if she wasn't chomping at the bit to chase after it again.

And for once, it was Javi and Scott that approached her and not the other way around.

She took one look at them and couldn't believe they were in their Storm Par shirts even on their day off. But it made her smile, knowing she could always rely on those two to look the same.

"Hey, guys," she said, smiling up at them but not moving to get up.

"How's our favorite Wrangler?" Javi asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Awe, I'm your favorite?" she cooed, subtly glancing at Scott, wondering if he thought the same.

"We all think so," Javi said before smirking and throwing his hand over Scott's shoulder. "Even Scott, here."

Scott just hummed, his eyes appraising her silently. She wasn't wearing a dress today, he silently noted. Though she still looked beautiful in a pair of cut off jean shorts and a baggy t-shirt that hung off her, showing off her smooth shoulder—

Scott sucked in a sharp breath at the thought, stopping his incessant gum chewing for a second.

Beautiful.

He rolled his jaw at the thought and quickly looked away from her and instead at Daisy, who was running back. And she ran right up to Javi, who knelt down and intercepted her.

"Hey, girl," Javi cooed while wrestling the ball from her mouth. "Ooh, you're a strong one."

"Oh, she'll love you both if you can throw farther than me," DJ said with a smile, not noticing the internal dilemma that Scott was going through as he looked at her once more.

Javi grinned triumphantly when he finally wiggled the octopus free. Then he reared his arm back and threw it, all of them watching as Daisy took off like a rocket.

"Boy, she's fast—"

Javi's phone rang, cutting him off. And when he looked at the caller ID, he glanced at Scott. "I'll be right back. It's the airline."

As Javi walked off, DJ tilted her head curiously. "Y'all going somewhere?" she questioned.

"Just Javi," Scott said, feeling a bit awkward around her on his own. Especially after he'd had such an intrusive thought. "He's going to New York next week on business."
