A/N: Hey my fine furry friends:) I'm back in action! I know updates are usually scheduled for Thursdays... but I figured I'd post this chapter so that we can get back to our somewhat regularly scheduled programming. I appreciate your comments and your support on this story! I love it a lot, and I'm glad you are all enjoying the ride. In a few chapters, we'll finally have Emily and Y/n back in their little bubble of.. not bliss, but whatever the heck their little relationship is lol
Hope you like this chapter!

I quickly scramble to Emily's side as she strides off without a second glance to see if I'm following behind her. Despite the words of encouragement I tried to give her in the car, I can tell she is still frustrated. I suppose she has a reason. Now that the city knows what's happening, the unsub will likely kill again soon. We're on a clock now, and the Secretary of State just set it off.
We enter the Capitol, flashing our badges through the detailed security. They let us through easily, recognizing the Chief of the BAU. Emily's stance gets more regal as I follow her through the halls, her aura radiating confidence. I also straighten my shoulders, attempting to look half as intimidating as she does, her face set firm and her heels clicking through the somewhat empty corridor as we aim for the Secretary of State's office.
She doesn't even bother to knock. She simply pushes the door open when we get to the correct room, and the woman at the front desk scrambles out of her seat, standing to greet us. "Hello, I'm sorry, Secretary Roberts just left for the day. Did you hav-" The woman anxiously speaking gets cut off by my now thoroughly pissed Chief. "What?" Emily cuts in, crossing her arms over her chest, "She left?"
The woman starts, taken aback by Emily's tone. I step forward, unconsciously resting my hand on Emily's lower back. She's tense, and I just made it worse, but I ignore it, trying to calm the anger as I gently stroke my thumb across her back. I pull out my badge and flash it to the lady with an apologetic smile. "We're the FBI. We're here to speak to the Secretary," I say, my tone much more gentle than Emily's was, "But if she's gone, could you tell us where she went?"
The poor woman gawks at my badge and flickers her eyes between Emily and me. I can feel Emily's eyes staring holes into the side of my head, but I remain focused on the woman in front of us. "Um.. she went to a meeting," the lady says hesitantly. "Where," Emily interjects, her burning gaze shifting from me again. After shuffling on her feet as she debates offering up her boss's whereabouts, the woman finally glances at me and stutters, "The Hyatt Regency, ma'am." I suck in a breath and immediately look at Emily, who looks back at me. Without another word, the two of us turn and leave, the woman stuttering and stammering after us.
"Of course," Emily exasperates as we stride through the halls. Well, she strides. I trot after her, attempting not to fall on my face as I keep up with her. "Of course, she'd go to a hotel." I nod in agreement, pulling out my phone and pressing Tara's number. I hold it to my ear, wincing at the bright sun as we leave the Capitol building.
"Hey there, sunshine, I heard the Chief's all up in arms," Tara's voice comes all perky through the phone. I roll my eyes, though she can't see me. "Tara, I need you to bring the rest of the team to the Hyatt Regency and request backup," I say breathlessly into the phone, barely sliding into my seat in the car before Emily gets it turned on.
"What's the lead?" Tara immediately gets back into work mode, and I hear her calling out to the rest of the team, though it's muffled, like she pulled the phone away from her ear. "The Secretary of State dipped out of her office right after she released that press conference and is at the Hyatt Regency. Penelope?" I ask, knowing the blonde will be on the call with the rest of the team. Sure enough, I hear her voice. "Yeah, hot stuff?" she asks.
