Chapter Six

I wake up the next morning in Sarah's bed, confused why I'm in Sarah's bed, in my gross damp clothes, and the worst cold I've ever had in my life. As if this week could get worse. I get up, ignoring the fact I feel like my head is going to explode and get in Sarah's shower. She had the good shampoo you know. I hear a small crash in her bedroom and quickly get out to check what's wrong. I wrap myself in a towel and see JJ standing in Sarah's room picking up one of Sarah's vases.
"What are are doing get dresssed." He says
"What's do you means what am I doing? I'm showering, in my house."
"Get dressed we have to go."
"Can I ride the shampoo out of my hair?"
"Quickly! I will get you clothes, hurry up!" He says
"Okay! Okay!" I say
"Uh what's going on?" Wheezie asks
"Shit." I say under my breath
"Hi wheez." JJ says giving her a pitiful wave
"I have something to tell you, but you can't freak okay? Dad can't know."
"Oh god are you pregnant?" JJ says
"She's 13!" I say
"14." She corrects me
"Sorry, she's 14." I say
"Sarah's alive, she called me and said their in the Bahamas! And apparently dad is going to go to the Bahamas tomorrow with Rafe. But he booked 3 tickets." She whispers
"Holy shit!" I yell
"What! What! Is it..."
"She knows it's fine! JJ , I have a ticket to Nassau tomorrow. I can get Sarah, we can get the gold, it's all gonna be okay." I say walking to hug him
"You're leaving?" Wheezie says
"Who else would it be? He wouldn't bring you with him and Rafe , he wouldn't leave us alone and take rose."
"Great, so I'm just alone again." She says
"Wheez I will come back." I say
"Yeah but Sarah said that too and we thought she was dead..."
"Okay well I'm not Sarah." I say
"Please just say goodbye before you go."
"Of course wheez." I say
"Now go so I can wash my hair." I say shooting JJ a dirty look and go into the bathroom to rinse out my hair
"Here are your clothes." He says setting them on the counter
"Thank you." I say wrapping myself back into a towel and getting out
"Did I mention that I'm happy we're okay."
"I think you did." I say he kisses the top of my head and walks out. I put the clothes he picked on, he didn't do too bad. A black tank top and Jean shorts, both of which are Sarah's but that's okay.
"And you might uh want to an extra pair of clothes things might get messy today." He says
"What are we doing?" I ask
"Getting the gun." He answers
"And that entales?"
"You'll see." He says
I grab another tank top and a pair of shorts and hand it too him. We both pause when we hear a knock in the door.
"In the bathroom!" I whisper and he runs to hide
"Yes?" I say
"How are you doing sweetie?" My dad says walking in
"I'm fine, a little headache." I say
"Alright, I just want to let you know. Me and Rafe are going on a buisness trip and we need you to come with us."
"Why?" I ask
"Because I think you will find it interesting, it's a learning experience. Who knows we could come out of it rich." He says and I know what he's talking
"Okay, when are we leaving? I'm gonna go spend the day with topper." I lie
"We're leaving at 4. Pack a bag, don't be late." He says
"Okay."
"Love you sweetie. This will be good." He says kissing my forehead
"Yup." I say once he leaves JJ comes back out
"So your actually leaving?" He asks
"Looks like it." I say
"Be careful." He says
"I'll be so careful." I mock
"I'm serious." He says
"I will be, don't worry." I say leaning up to kiss his cheek
"Let's go." I say and we climb down the ladder to where Kie and pope are waiting for us
"Nice of you to join us." Pope says
"Awe thanks." I say
"Listen about last night Iz, we're sorry." Kie says
"No, I'm sorry. It's not our fault, well it is. But it isn't, I was just in shock, mad at what I saw. I shouldn't have said those things." I say
"Let's catch this bitch!" JJ says
"Let's!" I say

"Okay so I'm not about sewers..." I say
"This is the north drain. It should have gotten washed into the gully. So if got flushed out from this drain, it would've pushed out to, like— here."
"Somewhere in this trash." Pope says
"Oh my god." I sigh
"People who use plastic should be shot." Kie says
"Okay, personally I love plastic. Use it everyday. Love the stuff."
"Hopefully you recycle it and don't let it flush into the ocean." Kie says
"I thought you'd say something like that so-" pope says holding trash bags up
"Trash bags..." I say
"Did you just proactively protect the environment?" Kie asks
"Maybe." Pope says
"You want us to leave you two alone, or what's going on?" JJ asks
"Just pick up the trash." Pope says throwing him a bag
"Wait the trash bags are plastic I'm confused." I say
"Shh." Kie smiles
"Well that was fun." JJ says
"Why are you lying?" I ask
"If it's not in the trash then it's gotta be in the storm drain." Pope says
"It's in, it's in the drain." JJ agrees
"Damn it." Pope says
"Of course it is." Kie says
"So that's what you meant when you said today would be messy?" I ask
"I was just talking about the trash, I didnt plan for this." JJ says
"Great." I say
"So are we gonna do like rock paper scissors?" Kie asks
"No." JJ says
" Alphabetically?" I ask
"Nah, pope. 1,2,3." JJ says tugging on the door
"Oldest goes?" Kie asks
"In the sewer there's this worm that you get when your down there. It's gets into your blood and then has to come out your pecker. So, uh... that's gonna be a hard pass for me." JJ says
"That's a no for me too." Pope says
"No, I get it. You guys are scared. It's kinda cute, no it is." Kie says they all look at me
"What?" I say
"You're joking right?" I say  assuming they want me to go in
"I'll come with." Kie says
"Joy." I say taking my shoes off
"Just so you know, I hate you all." I say handing my shoes to JJ
"You guys are so great." JJ says
"Shut up." I say
"Okay, just you know, be careful." Pope says
"I'll be so careful." Kie says
"Yup I deserve that." Pope says I start crawling in before Kie
"This is disgusting." I say
"Just uh, holler if you need anything, okay?" JJ says
"And what you'll holler back?" I say
"Got me." He laughs
"Oh my god we're gonna get malaria." I say
"Not quite." Kie says
"Oh my god this is gross." I gag
"Did you guys find anything?" Pope asks
"No." Kie yells
"It's probably at the bottom of the catch basin." Pope yells
"Great." I say climbing into the water
"People are so shitty." Kie says digging through the trash
"Euh." I say flicking the water off
"Kie I think I have it." I say picking something up from the bottom
"Guys we found something!" Kie yells
"Oh my god!!" I yell throwing it back into water
"There's something dead in here!" I yell
"Like a person?" Pope asks
"Ahhhh." Kie screams
"There's something dead!"
"Oh my god!" I yell
"Izzy don't touch it your gonna get worms!" JJ yells
"Did you find the gun? Is it Gavin?" Pope asks
"Just don't touch it!" JJ yells
"Kie is it a gun?" Pope asks
"I don't know!" I yell
"Kie, the water." I say
"Oh shit!" She says
"Guys? Guys the water!" I yell
"Get out of there now!" Pope yells
"We don't have time!" Kie yells
"Oh no!" I say
"Climb the ladder come on!" Kie yells
"One sec I got something." I say dipping under to grab the gun and shove it in the back of my pants
"Hurry." Kie says and I climb against the water
"Please! JJ!" I beg
"Pope?!" Kie yells
"Help! We're over here!" I yell trying to breathe the last bit I can
"Izzy!" I hear JJ yell
"The waters coming up! Pull!" Kie yells
"Pull it!" I yell
"Hurry, hurry!" Kie begs
"JJ please, please,please!" I beg
"Hold on we'll get you out. I promise." Pope says
The water goes over our head and they finally get the cover off. I let Kie crawl out first and the I follow.
"Are you good? Are you good?" JJ asks me
"Yeah." I cough
"Are you okay?" Pope asks Kie trying to hug her
"Pope, get off me!" She says
"You're okay, your good! Your okay!" JJ says patting my back as I cough up the water, I did put the gun from the back of my shorts and hand it to JJ.
"You're joking." He says
"This isn't what we're looking for right?" I ask
"Holy shit!" Pope says
"Were gonna get this son of a bitch man," Jj laughs
"Good job." Pope says hugging my side
"Yeah." I agree
"You did it." JJ says slinging his arms around me pope and Kie join in and we group hug
"Alright, sheriffs office." I say letting go
"Yep let's go." Kie says walking to the car
"Oh god open a window it smells rancid." I say
"Yeah that's you hun." JJ says
"I just crawled threw a fucking sewer what do you think I'm supposed to smell like!" I say
"Roses." He laughs

"Is shoupe here?" I ask the lady
"Yes just head into his office right there." The lady points
"Oh god. What now." He says
JJ unwraps the gun onto his desk.
"So yall are telling me this is the firearm that Rafe Cameron killed peterkin with?" He asks
"That's exactly what we're telling you, and the same firearm ward just used to kill Gavin." Pope says
"And where's that corpse again?" Shoupe asks
"Didn't you look?" Kie asks
"I checked the hospital. I went by his house. He was out."
"Yeah out of life! Cause he's dead shoupe!" I say
"Listen to yourself." Kie says
"It makes perfect sense!" JJ says just because he is not in his damn home does not mean he was a victim of a homicide." Shoupe says
"What are you talking about?" Kie says
"Are you atleast gonna send it in for ballistics and shit?"
"Or are you just gonna sit on your ass !" Kie yells
"He'll sit there and was that damn mustache! Is that even real?" JJ yells
"JJ shut up!" Pope yells
"It's not fair!" Kie says
"Oh I'm sorry did I hurt his feelings.?" JJ says
"Shut up!" Pope tells him
"Get out! I have work to do and yall are stinking up my office." Shoupe says
"Did ward bribe you? It doesn't make any sense." Kie says walking out
"You ain't gonna do shit." JJ mumbles
"Out!" He yells
"We brought you the murder weapon. There's no logical reason for you not to send it in." Pope says
"Go with you friends." He tells him
"Izzy go." He says
"What's the serial number on that?" I ask
"That's none of your business." He says
"It's my brothers gun. I know it is, he kept it in the safe. We're going to Nassau tomorrow to get our money back, we leave at 4. I hope you come before then." I say and walk out
We all get into the car and go to Hayward's to take showers.
"You remember when big John taught us to shotgun beers?" I ask
"Because you got John b an a." He laughs
"Can you hand me a towel?" I ask him
"Oh yeah here." He says handing it to me
"Thanks. And then remember we all went kayaking and we had that huge water fight." I say drying my self
"and we tipped eachothers over and we almost drowned yeah I remember." He laughs
"I miss him." I say
"Me too." He says
"Okay clothes please!" I say
"Yes ma'am." He hands me them and I get changed and step out
"Ah you look so normal now!" He says
"You cold?" He asks
"Freezing." I shiver
"I knew you were gonna say that, I grabbed one out of Sarah's closet I hope that's okay."
"Oh thank you." I say putting it on and walking down to Kie and pope
"I just wanted to let you guys know, me and JJ talked about it earlier, I'm uhm- I'm going to Nassau tomorrow. With Rafe and my dad."
"Okay, why?" Kie asks
"He said it's a buisness trip." I put in air quotes
"They're getting the gold." JJ says
"I'm finding John b and sarah." I say
"So that's insane!" Kie says
"For how long?" Pope asks
"I don't know." I shrug
"Great." She says
"You're mad?" I ask
"No, sad. Not mad." She smiles
"Guess we better take you home then." Pope says
"Can I drive?" I ask
"Do you not want to go to Nassau?" He asks
"I'm not a bad driver!" I say
"Debatable." He says
"Whatever." I say
