Chapter Twenty

We pull up to Tanny hill, beside the fence. We all file out and look for Rafe.
"He's got the truck!" Pope whispers
"Shh." I tell him
"Stay low, stay low." John b tells us
"How much do you wanna bet Rafe has the cross inside that truck right now?" Pope asks
"There's only one way to find out." Sarah says walking away
"Hey, hey. Wait." John b chases after her
"What?" Sarah asks
"Look, before you volunteer on this death mission I need to know a couple things." John b says
"I'm going with her." I whisper to JJ
"That's funny." He says
"JJ she's my sister, I have to." I say
"Please, be careful." He agrees kissing my forehead
"Always." I say
"Look who has reconciled their differences." Pope whispers
"Hate to break this up, but we gotta go. Happy for you though." I say walking over
"Yes, I want this back." Sarah says taking the bracelet from John b and walking away with me
"Okay. Be safe." He says happy

*narrator pov*

"Okay, I'm gonna look inside the truck you stay on lookout." Izzy whispers to Sarah
"Yeah, okay." Sarah agrees
"What is she doing?" JJ whispers watching as izzy and Sarah split apart, izzy investigating the truck and Sarah watching the doors and surrounding property.
"Sarah the keys aren't here." Izzy whispers
"I don't know what to do!" Sarah signs to the boys
"We need the keys!" Izzy says
"Come back." John b waves us over
"We're going inside. We'll be fine." Sarah says
"Are you insane?" Izzy asks
"It will be fine." She says
"No, no. Don't go inside!" Pope says
"You told them to not go in right!?" JJ asks John b
"I told them yes." John b says

*back to izzy*

"Okay, we're doing this." I say nervously
"Do you want me to go first?" Sarah asks
"No, I'm fine." I say walking in
"He's in the shower." Sarah whispers
"Okay, shhh." I tell her
"Right there. Keys." She points
I go to get them back Rafe starts turning the door non so me and Sarah run back into the hallway.
"Shit." I whisper tip toeing away
"Is wheez home?" I ask
"Yes yes, go to her room now." She tells me and we go in
"Oh." She gasps
"Rose was looking for you two she said we're going on some trip or something." She tells us
"Yeah, no." I say
"I'm not going anywhere with her." Sarah says
"Not according to her. And by the way where have you been?" She asks
"Trapped in the weirdest three days of my life. I have so much to tell you. And I am so sorry to ask you for another favor, but right now we need your help." Sarah says
"On one condition, no more leaving me." She says
"Promise." We both agree
"What do you need?" She asks
"Go distract Rafe, he has something we need. After we get it we promise no more leaving, okay?" I say
"What do I do?" She asks
"Just go talk to him, anything that will last for at lesser like 3 minutes okay?" Sarah say
"Okay." She agrees
"Love you wheez." I say
"Love you too." She says walking out
Wheezie goes to get Rafe and gives us the okay when it's time to move. We go downstairs but Rafe locked the door. I stay on lookout while Sarah runs to our dads closet to get a coat hanger to pick the lock.
"Come on Sarah." I rush her
"I'm trying." She whispers the door clicks telling us it's unlocked
"Where are the keys?" I ask searching around the room
"I don't know, they were right here!" She whispers
"Sarah's their right here." I say trying to not laugh at how dumb we are
"Okay we gotta go, let's go!" She says and we run out shutting the door behind us
We run out to the truck, and Sarah unlocks the drivers side.
"We need to check the back, what if he got the cross." I say
"Yeah, yeah. Good idea." She says walking to the other side and unlocking it. I help her open the door and we see the dead body laying in the back. We both stay silent, and Sarah begins panicking.
"Sarah shh." I say trying to get her to be quiet but she bumps into Rafe and he grabs her
"Rafe, please." I whine
"I really wish you didn't do that." He says
"Get off of me! No!" Sarah yells as he grabs her arm
"Rafe stop!" I yell as he takes her inside and I follow
"This is why we don't snoop into things that aren't ours." He says shutting her in dads wine closet
"Rafe you cannot leave her in there!" I yell listening to her smash bottles against the door
"Rafe! Let me out!" She yells
"Come on Rafe, don't do this!" I say
"I'm not letting you out Sarah. Not until you calm down, okay?" He says
"Rafe what the hell is going on? Izzy-" she says not expecting me
"Rose! Please get her out please." I beg running to hug her
"You wanted them right? Their right here." He says
"That's Sarah? In there?" She asks
"Yes. Please let her out." I say
"Rose!" Sarah yells
"Why is she locked in there?" Rose asks
"Rafe locked her in."
"Rafe locked me in!" She says with me
"She's locked in there because sometimes you make the hard choice, right? She just didn't get that. You fail to understand that constantly, don't you? Huh?!" He yells
"Shut the hell up!" She yells
"You need to calm down!" He yells
"Rafe, Rafe? Rafe. Go upstairs." Rose tell him
"What is wrong with you?" I say
"Just go." Rose tells him
"Rose, can you let me out?" She asks
"Sarah, sweetie. You need to calm down sweetie okay?"
"Let me out!" Sarah yells
"I really wanna help you, but I have to go get the key. Okay? I can't let you out without the key, but I need to know your gonna be calm." She says leaving me outside with Sarah
"Rose! Rose!" Sarah yells
"Sarah, Sarah. Hey, it's izzy." I say
"I thought you left." She cries
"No, no I'm right here." I say
"You need to go, you need to get out. Grab some clothes and a charger and leave. Do not stop until you get to John bs."
"But what about you?" I ask
"The clothes are for me, the charger is for us." She laughs
"But what if Rafe hurts you, or rose? Sarah I can't leave you here in a closet." I say
"Just go, before she comes back. I will be fine." She says
"I love you Sarah, I'm so sorry." I say turning away
"I love you too bug." She says
I run up the stairs, staying out of roses view. To Sarah's room, taking the phone charger out and grabbing random clothes shoving them into one of her bags and running out before Rafe or rose could see me.
I run to where the boys were before and they weren't there.
"JJ? Pope?" I say fighting back tears
"John b?" I cry
"Izzy!" JJ yells running and hugging me
"Rose has Sarah." I cry into his shoulder
"JJ, Iz get down." Pope tells us and we duck behind a bush
"What's wrong? What happened in there?" He asks wiping the tears off my face
"Rafe, he-he." I struggle to get out
"Rafe did what?" Pope asks
"He killed renfield." I say crying
"Holy shit." Jj whispers
"Where's Sarah?" John b asks
"Locked in a closet." I say
"What?" They all ask
"Rafe locked her in the wine closet." I say
"And you didn't get her out?" John b asks
"He's shot me before who's to say he won't again." I say
"So Sarah's just in a wine closet right now?" JJ asks trying not to laugh
"Wheezie said rose was looking for us and that we were going on a trip. She's trying to take us away. Somethings up." I say
"We gotta go in." John b says
"Absolutely not. No." Pope says
"Okay then what do we do? What's the plan?" He asks
"Well he might have the gun, so, uh, what's in our favor? The element of surprise, that's what's in our favor." JJ says
"He's driving away." I say
"What can we surprise him with?" John b asks
"He's got my cross." Pope says
"what if we threw something in front?" JJ asks
"Threw what, where? In the tree?"
"Slingshot yea." JJ says
"Pope what are you doing?" I ask as he tightens his shoe
"Come with." He says running off and I follow close behind not informing the other boys of what we were doing, cause honestly I didn't know either.
"Pope! Izzy!" JJ yells
"Go! Go!" Pope tells me as I get closer to the truck
"Pope I can't!" I say realizing the reality of the situation is I have a fast on my arm and if I grab onto the truck it more than likely will not go my way
"Come iz." He says and I speed up grabbing onto the bar with my good and and wrapping my other arm under the ladder trying to not hurt it more
"Pope what now?" I ask holding on as he still runs for the truck, he quickly leaps for the ladder grabbing on and climbing up with me.
"Holy shit. Holy shit." I say out of breath
"Shhh." He tells me
"He's stopping, get off here go in the woods." Pope tells me hopping down, giving me his hand to help me down
"Okay." I agree taking his hand
We watch as Rafe unlocks the truck, dropping renfields dead body down into the mud and hauling it into the river.
"I'm gonna have puke." I whisper
"Shh." Pope tells me
We stand and watch as Renfields body floats down the water eventually coming to a gator and the gator takes a bite of him right infront of us. I immediately gag, but pope runs and attack Rafe. I stand behind the tree knowing it won't do pope any good if I try to help him.
"Okay, round three bitch." Rafe says tackling pope to the ground, punching him multiple times. Eventually pope shoves Rafe off of him, giving him a second to stand and punch Rafe. I watch as the two wrestle, eventually Rafe goes to get something from the truck. Pope runs back over to the tree where I was hiding , he tells me to be quiet and I listen.
"It's me or the gators! Good luck!" Rafe yells shutting the truck doors and leaving us in the woods.
"Holy shit." I sigh and pope takes his phone out
"What are you doing?" I ask
"Calling for help." He says dialing Kies number
"Kie! We're in trouble. Rafe has the cross. Kiara I need you to come get me and izzy. We're stranded in the woods. Please Kie we need your help. We're at the swamp past Angel oak, please hurry." Pope says hanging up the phone
I look at the cuts and bruises all over popes face dabbing off the dripping blood with my shirt.
"Ah ow." He winces
"Sorry, sorry." I say
"No it's fine." He says
"I'm so sorry pope, I'm so sorry." I cry
"It's okay, it's not your fault." He says
"The suns rising." I say looking up to the sky
"We gotta go get something." He says standing up
We walk to the familiar place of where we were when John b was arrested for the murder of Sherrif peterkin. Pope starts digging and picks up JJs gun.
"Pope..." I say quietoh
"It's just for protection." He says
"Kies here." I say walking to her car and getting in the passenger side before pope could say anything else
"Morning." She says
"Mhm." I groan
"What the hell happened?" She asks
"Too much." I say leaning against the window

We drive for a little, probably a half an hour. I assume pope explained everything to Kie, while I fell asleep. Exhausted from this night.
"Pope listen, when all of this is over and I go home my parents are probably gonna send me away. I just wanna make sure that we're straight, I'm not gonna see you for a really long time and after that night... if it... if I hurt your feelings..."
"You didn't. It's good " He says
"But I... I feel like I did."
"Kie, Kie. I promise you it's okay. We're friends and that's first." He says and she nods
"Where are we?" I ask pretending to just wake up
"We are going for a little boat ride." She says pulling into a yard
"Why are we here?" I ask
"We're going on vacation with rose." Kie jokes shutting the car off
"Ah. Right." I say getting out
"Their over here." I say running over to where I can see their heads peeking over
"Hey!" I say running over to them
"Jeez! I was about to stab your eyes out." JJ says holding up a fist
"You looked scared as shit." Kie laughs
"Where the hell were you last night?" He asks pulling me in a hug
"I watched an alligator eat a dead body." I say hugging him back
"Your gonna have to explain that one to me later." He says
"How'd you guys even find us?" John b asks
"Geo located your phone." Kie says
"Smart." JJ high fives her
"You okay? What happened?" John b asks pope
"Rafe round three." Pope says
"You fricking kidding me? Again?!" JJ asks
"This was a tie." Pope says
"You good?" John b asks me
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine." I say
"Is that the cross?" Pope asks
"Yup." JJ says
"They're holding Sarah hostage." John b says
"What?" I ask
"We gotta get on that boat." Kie says
"Well first we gotta get past the goon squad." JJ says
"Okay, let's move. Come on." John says
"Pope what are you doing?" John b asks after pope doesn't move
"I have a plan." Pope says
"No stop running dude." John b says
"Trust me man. Go. I'll meet up with you guys, go." Pope says running away

We're ducking behind some stoarge units when we hear a giant explosion, the familiar sound bringing me back to the day on the dock.
"It's working." Kie says and pope comes barreling toward us
"Pope? What the hellnwas that?" John b asks
"Look, that containers going on the ship. We can get in that way." Pope points
"Are you with me?" Pope asks
"Pope your a fricking genius." I say
"Let's go." JJ says
"This way, come on come on." John b tells us and we follow
"Their right there, their right there." JJ says looking to see where the guards were
"Who's whoa. Did you think this through?" JJ asks stopping me before I could get on
"Yes, this is the plan." Pope says
"That's a trap right there. We can't get out once we get in." JJ says
"You guys don't have to come, right?" John b says
"Yeah, this is our fight." Pope says
"Yeah right." JJ agrees
"Nothing to loose?" JJ asks me and Kie
"Nothing to loose." We say following him into the container
"Guess it's better than boarding school." Kie says
"Go! Go! Go! Go!" JJ tells us as we try to find a spot to hid in
"Shhh." John b tells us as we hear muffled voices coming to the container
"She's good to go, lock her up." A man says, JJ fist bumps John b in honor of their plan working.
