It took you a few days to fully recover but it helped that you had moved into the Malto's spare bedroom with Dorothy's and Alex's help. They had moved a few boxes out for you and with everything considered It was pretty spacious area you could call your own. It overlooked the road that led to the barn and as much as you tried to stop yourself you had gotten used to the sound of a helicopter landing right outside your window at least once a day. At first it made you jump but by the third day, you had grown accustomed to it. Almost like if the transforming robot was simply your over glorified alarm clock.
The couple had mentioned briefly that they had been planning on making it into a guest room but because you popped into their lives it gave them the motivation to do it sooner than they had thought they would have too. It was nice. You had a small closet of clothes Dorothy had been so kind to buy you. (you told her you would make up for it somehow, she would just wave you off and say it was fine.) Plus, they had cleaned off a desk for you, so you had a place to work on whatever future endeavors you came across. You had a full-sized bed and a small bedside table with a lamp on it. The room was cozy. You still preferred your own back at your apartment in your own dimension...but beggars can't be choosers.
In the week or so you had been here, you had slowly gotten to know everyone little by little. Once you had learned everyone's name, it wasn't hard to remember them since they were all pretty unique. You learned that the family had just moved from Philadelphia. They also told you that the "Terran's" were half alien and half earthborn which still made no sense to you. Everyone was amazed when you told them that your world didn't have giant alien robots roaming the Earth. (You even started to question if your own government was hiding something from the people, but you had bigger fish to fry at the moment.)
A small knock on your door brought you out of your thoughts and you answered with a small "Come in." Dorthy opened the door with a small smile on her face. She was dressed for work in a tan short sleaved collared shirt and a pair of green uniform pants. Her dark dreads were up in a loose ponytail and her Brown eyes were lively as she leaned on the door frame and cleared her throat.
"I was wondering if you wanted to come with me to the Ranger Station. We'll have to hide you under the governments nose, so it's safer for you to be in plain sight then shuffling you around." She trailed off waiting for your answer. You smiled and nodded your head.
"I'd love to! But we should come up with a cover story for me." You two sat in thought for a minute before she called out.
"I got it! You're a college exchange student from Canada. You are here to study the American wilderness. I think Alex and I can try to find a way to get you a temporary identity." She hit her fist on her open palm in an assertive way. You wanted to try your hand at a Canadian accent in case you ran into any of those Ghost opts that she was trying to protect you from.
"Y-you batcha?" You awkwardly stuttered out. Dorothy looked at you surprised. She started laughing harder than you had seen anyone laugh at one of your poorly timed jokes. You chuckled a bit while she caught her breath.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. That caught me off guard. You're a little jokester underneath that serious face, aren't you?" You felt a warm feeling in your chest that you hadn't really felt before. It had started popping up whenever you made one of the Malto children laugh too. Dorothy motioned for you to follow her. She led you down the stairs and to what you knew was her and Alex's bedroom. She opened the door and walked over to a walk-in closet. It wasn't huge by any means, but it was more spacious than yours.
She rummaged around in a few drawers before she handed you an outfit similar to hers. It was a ranger uniform, but it resembled a romper with tan shorts and a tan shirt that matched Dorothy's.
