Chapter 35: Syren Part 2

While Chat Noir, Styx and Maray were still looking for the ingredients, Syren had been busy with her plan to flood the entire city of Paris with water. It was slow at first, but then really picked up speed when her flood hit the Seine River, making the water level rise even further and forcing civilians to get to higher ground as it completely flooded the streets. Soon enough, it reached the point where it started flooding the inside of buildings too... like the theater where Marinette and her friends were watching their movie. Needless to say, the sight of people in the frontmost rows running out of the room as the water started coming in through the lowermost exit had the group of teenagers on high alert.

"What's going on?" Marinette wondered aloud when the person in front of her ran out of the room, only to get her answer when the water rushed under the seats where she and her friends were sitting. Immediately, everyone in that same row lifted their feet onto their seats while screams of fear filled the room alongside the water... only for more water also rush into the theater from the back exits.

"Okay, who left the faucet running?" Alya tentatively joked, trying to lighten the mood while everyone tried to find a way out of the theater before it was filled with flood water.

"The stairs! Quick!" Marinette shouted when she saw a semi-flooded doorway, pointing at it so that everyone knew where to go. With a destination set, the crowd sloshed their way through the half-flooded theater and made it to the stairwell, quickly climbing up the stairs to the top.

"Hurry up!" Alya urged the crowd after she and Marinette reached a higher level, the two directing the traffic flow so everyone could get to safety.

"Everyone, up on the roof!" Marinette added on, watching as the last person of the crowd passed her and Alya before they followed behind, the flood water filling the stairway right behind them.

It was a bit of a climb, but everyone made it to the theater roof, allowing Marinette and Alya to slam the door behind them to block off the water behind them for a little bit. But once they did, the two girls climbed the little staircase up to the viewing area of the roof to join their friends... only to be shocked to find the entire city was flooded almost to where they were standing. Upon seeing the ocean of water overtaking the city she knew and loved, Marinette couldn't help but gasp at the sight, in devastated awe of the disaster in front of her.

"This is bad! My circuits are sensitive to water." Markov whined while hovering next to Max, the robot having as much to worry about as his friends. But the moment of reflection on the foreboding was interrupted when a hollering Kim ran past Max and Markov and jumped off the roof, diving into the water just below it.

"Come on, guys! I can teach you to swim in two seconds flat, Markov." Kim offered after he resurfaced, him being the only one to find the whole city flooded with water something to enjoy due to his love for swimming. "You just put your arms like this, then you push your legs, and it's kind of like being a frog, you see." the jock explained while demonstrating to the little robot, unaware of the previously board Max spotting a fin in the water approaching Kim.

"In fact, it helps to think as a frog, too, you know—" Kim continued, only to be interrupted when Syren suddenly leapt out of the water behind him, catching everyone's attention and awe with her grand entrance. But it was short-lived when the aquatic akuma dived back in... pushing Kim underwater with her!

"KIM!!" Max frantically yelled while running to the railing to search for any sign of his friend, unaware of Marinette quietly slipping away from the others before Alya ran to the edge of the roof to help Max look for their friend.

"Where is he? Can you see him?" Alya called out to the other searchers, only to see Marinette in a trash bin and using a shovel to paddle away from the theatre. "Marinette, what are you doing?!" the reporter shouted at her best friend, causing Marinette to suddenly stop her escape.
