The night before their departure was still fresh in Maya's mind.

She recalled the warmth of the bed she had slept in, the food that was brought to her chamber by one of the women from the palace.

The woman had come with a plate full of food and placed it gently in front of her.

"Devi, here is your lunch" the female attendee said softly, her eyes filled with concern.

Maya's gaze shifted from the food to her own body.

Her outfit had been changed, the bloodied and torn clothing from the battle replaced by a fresh, soft fabric, and her wounded leg had been dressed in clean bandages.

A wave of confusion washed over her. She raised her eyebrows and looked at the servant.

The woman, reading the doubt in Maya's eyes, quickly spoke.

"I changed your clothes and tended to your wounds with the help of the doctor. You were unconscious, my lady."

Maya let out a deep sigh she hadn't realized she'd been holding. Her body relaxed as the tension slipped away, and she gave a small nod of acknowledgment.

The servant took that as her cue to leave, bowing respectfully before exiting the chamber.

Left alone, Maya took a deep breath, her mind filled with the events of the day, her thoughts shifting back to Rudra. His safety was the only thing that mattered to her, and yet her heart couldn't settle.

The next morning, the war shed buzzed with preparations.

The time had come to depart for the kingdom. The sun had barely risen over the horizon, but everyone was ready, waiting only for Maya and Arjun.

Maya limped slightly as she arrived at the courtyard, her eyes scanning the people who were busily loading carriages and saddling horses.

She spotted Arjun, standing awkwardly beside a horse, looking unsure of what to do.

"Come on, Arjun," Maya called to him, motioning for him to walk over.

As they approached, one of the female servants stopped Maya and gestured towards a palanquin that was being prepared.

"You should sit with us, my lady," she said kindly. "Let Arjun ride the horse."

Maya frowned, glancing at the ornate palanquin and then at Arjun, who was shifting uncomfortably beside the horse.

She bit her lip in frustration. "I don't want to sit in the palanquin," she stated firmly. "I will ride the horse."

The servant's eyes widened in surprise.

"But, Devi... it's not customary for women to ride horses. The men...," she hesitated, lowering her voice, "they might not approve."

Maya crossed her arms stubbornly. "It's not about approval. I want to ride. And besides," she shot Arjun a sideways glance, "he can't even ride a horse."
