The sun rose gently over the horizon, casting a soft golden glow across the vast, open plains.Maya stretched lazily, feeling the slight morning chill in the air, but it was invigorating, and she smiled as she prepared for the journey ahead.
Today was different.
The tension of the previous night had faded, replaced with a new sense of adventure.
The wind promising freedom.
The soldiers and her began to move forward, Maya mounted her horse with an eagerness she rarely felt.
Maybe it was the talk or the presence of certain someone?
The rhythmic clop of hooves on the ground soothed her, and she let herself be lost in the moment.
The wind danced across her face, her hair flying behind her as she sped up her horse.
The thrill of the ride took over, the world around her blurring as she allowed herself to race ahead.
“Maya, slow down!” Arjun’s panicked voice inside the palanquin echoed behind her, but it didn’t reach her ears.
She was too consumed by the thrill, too caught up in her thoughts.
Arjun’s heart pounded in his chest as he watched her pull away from the group.
His brow furrowed in worry.
This was unfamiliar territory, and despite Maya’s confidence, he feared for her safety.
“Damn it, Maya!” Arjun muttered under his breath, urging his own horse forward. "Why don't you listen to others for once?"
“We don’t know this area. She’s going too far.” His voice trembled slightly, betraying the concern he was trying to suppress.
Maya, oblivious to the anxiety behind her, continued to ride with a grin, feeling a rare sense of freedom.
She hadn't felt this way in a long time, and it reminded her of simpler days, when she, her mumma and papa in their own small world before she became who she was now.
A cold-hearted leader who trusted no one.
But for a moment, as the wind rushed past her, she felt untouchable.
Within a short distance, she slowed down, realizing she had left the others far behind.
She stopped near a cliff that overlooked the region.
The view was breathtaking, a vast expanse of land with mountains in the distance.
The horizon stretched out endlessly, making her feel small and, at the same time, strangely peaceful.
This scene, it felt like a déjà vu. Like she has seen this before, this breath taking view but at the same time she did in her era.
Shaking off the feeling, she waited for the others, what she didn’t realize that danger lurked nearby.
