The clone tapped the screen for a moment before he groaned and placed it on the table, "Your plating has some deep scratches and the gel layer is being used up. Your optics need some adjustment but that's all fine. Your shields just about dead and your deflectors were just about fried. I don't even want to talk about the power supply. You know how expensive this gear is?"
Chief placed his helmet back on, a hiss being heard as it locked on. "Tell that to the droids."
"Well I can't do much for repairs. The deflectors are fixed but that's all I know. Everything else is too foreign and we'll need to strip your armor."
Cortana was heard through Chief's helmet, "Well the Engineer 'Bounces a lot' should be able to fix everything. Just wish we brought him along."
"He would not have made it." Chief said. "An I clear to go?"
The clone shook his head. "Apparently you've been benched by General Krell. But I can ask Rex to see if you're fine to go."
"The senior staff have all been given strange tasks." Cortana said just inside the helmet. "Jesse is stacking ordnance and Fives is hacking into fighters. I would just get going and see if you can help any of them."
Chief nodded before he saw the clone look back at him, "You can go Chief. Rex says he'll probably need you for what's to come."
Chief nodded and started to head out. He felt the pains in his muscles and joints but he didn't let it slow him down. Mostly because the suit was doing most of the work.
"We should start training the men on the fighters." Cortana said. "They're easy to learn. You, Fives, and Hardcase did it easily. Well you were better but not by much."
Chief made his way to the command center where Krell is. Before he could reach it, a familiar ARC Trooper ran over, "Hey Chief! I was just about to grab you."
"Do you have order for me Fives?" Chief asked seeing him run over.
"I do. Come to the hanger will you? I need some pilots and you're one of the only ones I have."
Chief nodded and Cortana was heard, "I've already ran some trainer simulations. Without the General's permission I can train anyone you want."
Fives smiled. "I like the sound of that. We're getting Hardcase and Jesse ready for the upcoming mission."
"Did the General approve?" Chief asked.
Fives's smile slowly dropped. "Welllll... no. No he didn't. But Chief you know just as well as me that we can't listen to Pong Krell. He's trying to get us killed. That's why we're flying no matter what he says. Are you with us?"
There was a moment of silence. He went over his options but a certain AI made his choice for him. "Come on Chief. Since when have you ever said no to joining a fight?"
She had a point. "I'll join you."
"Good. Follow me to the hanger. Hardcase and Jesse are already there waiting for us." Fives said turning and speed walking to the hanger.
Chief followed close to him. "If we're not allowed to fly, how are we going to train with the fighters?" He asked Fives.
"That's a pretty good question. We'll do it as carefully as possible. And if we're caught, then we come up with something. Perhaps something about it being a trap or something like that."
"He has too much confidence in this half bakes plan." Cortana said. "Reminds me of someone I know."
At the hanger, Hardcase was in the fighter, ready for the crash course. "Alright Hardcase can you hear me?" Cortana asked through Hardcase's helmet.
