POV CHARLOTTE
“Char… Charlotte?”
I blinked, snapping back to reality as P’Mew waved his hand in front of my face.
“Sorry, Phi. What did you say?” I asked, trying to focus.
He chuckled softly, shaking his head. “You seem really out of it today. Did last night’s party wear you out that much?”
I gave him a small smile, but the truth stung beneath the surface. If only he knew what really happened last night. It wasn’t just tiring—it was a full-blown disaster that left me spiraling into regrets.
Why did I have to stir up drama? It's her life. We’ve been apart for six months. I should’ve let it go.
“Not really. I just didn’t get much sleep,” I replied. It wasn’t entirely a lie—I barely managed two hours before the sobbing took over.
P’Mew placed a comforting hand on mine, his touch gentle. “You shouldn’t overthink things. You need to rest, Char. Don’t wear yourself out like this.” He pulled me into a soft hug.
I smiled faintly, pulling away from the embrace, knowing my mind was miles away from this moment. Today, of all days, I wasn’t focused. Not only because of last night but also because I’d have to see her again. My ex. The one I’m still not over.
And P’Mew—kind, patient P’Mew—had no idea.
He patted my hair and kissed the top of my head. He’s a good guy, truly. We’ve been friends for years, ever since we worked on a series together. He’s always been there, offering his support, treating me like a little sister.
But lately, I felt a shift.
The way he looked at me… the way he cared for me… it was different.
And I couldn’t lie to myself. Part of me liked it.
But, a year ago, that closeness had ignited something ugly in P’Fa—jealousy. Her protectiveness over me, something I’d once cherished, became suffocating.
She was always possessive, but this? This was too much.
She didn’t just express her jealousy—she controlled me. Tried to stop me from seeing P’Mew, cut off my connection to someone I considered family. It was the beginning of endless fights, the kind that chip away at the foundation of everything you built.
I was the one who finally ended it, tired of the accusations and her constant need to control. For days, she said nothing. I thought maybe she’d come to her senses, realize how ridiculous it all was. But when her silence broke, it was in the form of a text. Cold. Distant.
And that’s when I knew—we were both done. Neither of us wanted to change.
The breakup was inevitable.
When it was over, I finally confided in P’Mew, telling him everything. He became my rock during the long days I spent locked in my apartment, avoiding everyone. He understood, more than anyone, what I had been through.
In time, he confessed his feelings for me. I should’ve felt guilty, because in a way, P’Fa was right—there was something there between us, even if I hadn’t acknowledged it at the time.
But now, I’m still trapped in the gravitational pull of a woman named Engfa Waraha.
P’Mew knows that. He’s patient, though. He didn’t ask for much, just my permission to pursue me, and I… I let him. Because I couldn’t bear to lose him too.
I don’t know how I truly feel about him. All I know is I need him close. I can’t lose anyone else.
So here we are. No labels, no promises. Just… close.
