A FEW MONTHS LATER, ISLA AND LEXA WERE SETTLED INTO A HOUSE IN DISTRICT 12. They brought Aria with them to raise as their own, and they lived in between Finnick and a pregnant Annie and Peeta and Katniss. They were as far away from the Capitol as they could possibly be, and they were all very satisfied with that.

Isla and Lexa could not have another child, but Aria adopted a lot of animals that she found. She also had the children of the other Victors, so she was never lonely. Annie and Finnick ended up having three kids — Percy, Freya, and Brook, each a year apart. Peeta and Katniss had a daughter, Willow, and then a son, Rye, three years later.

They were basically a huge family all together. They ate meals together and took turns reading bedtime stories to the kids. They read letters from Johanna who was living her best life back in District 7 and Gale who was living in District 2.

Commander Paylor was elected as the new President of Panem, and she would go on to do an amazing job. The Capitol Hunger Games idea was scrapped after Coin's assassination, and Isla would be eternally grateful that it didn't happen. She and Lexa discussed their decisions and worked past it fairly easily.

After a while, Isla stopped having nightmares about being tortured in the Capitol, and she no longer woke up screaming and in a pool of her own sweat. Lexa stopped freaking out when she woke up, and Isla was not there, and they fell into a rhythm. It was nice to have a stable day when their entire life had been unstable.

Annie had been training to be a teacher back in District 4 before her Games, so she taught the kids how to read and how to do basic math. When they were old enough, they would be able to go to the other Districts and learn things about life there. They would live free of the Hunger Games and everything that went with it.

Aria was the only one old enough to remember the War, and she would ask a lot of questions. When she was old enough, they agreed to tell her about what happened to them. Maybe no everything everything, but enough. She would learn about the Games sooner or later, and they would rather it be from them.

One day, many years later, Isla and Lexa were sitting under a tree as all of the kids played around them. Brook, Rye, and Freya were off picking dandelions, and 12-year-old Aria and 8-year-old Percy were wrestling in the grass.

"Geez, she's awful," Isla winced because despite the fact that their child was four years older, she was getting her ass handed to her by the little blonde boy. The Angler woman chuckled at the sight before looking over at her wife. "You might have to teach her how to fight."

However, Lexa just shook her head in response, the corners of her lips turning up ever so slightly before leaning her head on Isla's shoulder. She said, "We fought so she didn't have to."

And Aria never needed to know how to fight or hunt or be overly cautious. Isla did not realize it when it was happening, but during the war, she wasn't just fighting to stop what happened to her from happening to anyone else. She was fighting for the life that she never thought she could have. She had a child and house with the love of her life, and it had completed her.

This was all that they needed.
