The morning sun peeked through the curtains as Y/N slowly stirred from her sleep. She had finally managed to drift off after the tense encounter with Taehyung the night before, but her rest was cut short by the sound of the doorbell ringing incessantly.
Groaning softly, Y/N rubbed her eyes and sat up, realizing the noise wasn't stopping. She glanced over at the other side of the bed, but Taehyung wasn't there. Assuming he was still asleep in another room, she sighed and decided to answer the door herself.
The doorbell rang again, more urgently this time, as Y/N hurried down the stairs. The house was quiet, the only sound being the persistent ringing that echoed through the halls. She reached the front door and quickly unlocked it, pulling it open with a slight frown of annoyance.
But the moment she saw who was standing on the other side, Y/N froze, her breath catching in her throat.
"Elena?" Y/N whispered, her voice barely audible as she stared at her older sister in shock.
Elena stood in the doorway, her eyes wide with surprise as she took in the sight of Y/N. She looked almost exactly as Y/N remembered—her long hair slightly disheveled, her expression a mix of confusion and disbelief. But there was something different in her eyes, something that hadn't been there before.
"What are you doing here?" Elena asked, her voice laced with shock and disbelief. She glanced around, as if trying to make sense of where she was. "Why... why are you here, Y/N?"
Y/N's mind raced, struggling to find the words. She had so many questions, so many things she wanted to say, but in that moment, all she could do was stand there, staring at her sister in stunned silence. Elena was supposed to be missing, gone without a trace, yet here she was, standing right in front of her.
Elena stepped closer, her confusion deepening as she looked at Y/N. "This is Taehyung's house... why are you here? Where's Taehyung?"
Y/N swallowed hard, feeling her heart pound in her chest. She knew she had to say something, but the words seemed to stick in her throat. How could she explain everything that had happened? How could she tell Elena that she had been forced to marry Taehyung in her place, that their lives had been turned upside down?
"Elena..." Y/N finally managed to say, her voice shaky. "I—"
Before she could finish, the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway. Y/N turned, her eyes widening as she saw Taehyung approaching, his expression dark and unreadable. He had clearly heard the commotion and had come to see what was happening.
As Taehyung reached the doorway, his eyes locked onto Elena, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. The air was thick with tension, the weight of everything that had happened pressing down on all three of them.
"Elena..." Taehyung's voice was low, filled with a mix of emotions—anger, confusion, and something else Y/N couldn't quite place.
Elena's eyes flickered between Taehyung and Y/N, her shock giving way to a realization that seemed to hit her like a ton of bricks. "What... what's going on here?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Y/N felt her throat tighten, unsure of how to answer. The truth was too complicated, too painful to explain in just a few words. But before she could say anything, Taehyung stepped forward, his gaze fixed on Elena.
"You ran away," he said coldly, his voice barely concealing his anger. "And Y/N... she had to take your place."
Elena's eyes widened, horror dawning on her face as she processed his words. She looked at Y/N, her expression a mixture of guilt and disbelief. "Y/N... you..."
