Susan's POV

*~ The day Carmen was rescued ~*

I get back from the store, bringing in the groceries needed to keep Chelsea healthy. I can't believe she hates being called her name.

I get the groceries put away, and go look for her. It's about time to get another bag of blood for the buyer. I get the supplies ready and go in search of the ungrateful little creature.

"Carmen?" I call, knocking on her bedroom door. No answer. That's odd. I open the door to find the room empty.

What the hell? This is absolutely unsettling.

I search the house, calling her throughout. Shit! She left! After months of behaving and doing as I say, she was just pretending?!

"Shit!" I swear under my breath, as I search the fridge downstairs. I count the bags I have saved back. Three. I've got three bags.

That would be enough to buy me a month. I pull out my phone and call my buyer.

"Hello?" The voice answers.

"Hey, it's me." I say shortly. "Small problem. I only have three bags. And the supply has been stolen."

"Susan." He growls. "This is unacceptable."

"I told you this would happen eventually!" I fire back. "I told you I'd need more than just myself to keep her here!"

"That is not my problem." He says, sounding bored. "You have underlings, do you not?"

"Not anymore." I groan. "One has sided with Wolves, and the other turned on me hundreds of years ago."

"Again. Not my problem." He says simply. "Now. Either make more and get the supply back, or you will face your end."

"My end?" I chuckle. "I haven't had another half in centuries. I have no danger of slipping into the Vampire Sleep."

"You know that's not the only way to kill you." He chuckles back. "Now get to work." The line clicks dead.

"Fuck." I groan to myself.

I contemplate calling Jasper, but I know that wouldn't do anything. That ungrateful bastard has sided with the Wolves of Midnight River. Seems he's found his 'Mate.' Plus his stupid human boyfriend.

Jackson is a lost cause. He is the reason my supply has been taken from me. And Ana is the supply's mother. None of which would benefit me at all. They all want to keep it from me.

Seems I should make more. I spent the next two weeks trying to figure something out, but no luck was found. I sigh and get ready to go back into the city. I do my best to blend in. I'm very aware that I have people after me.

I watch as a young couple leaves the theater. No. Not multiples right now. I think to myself. Then the perfect candidate crosses my path.

A small, unassuming person walks in front of me, exiting the theater as well. They sigh heavily, and reach into their pockets to pull out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. They light one up and continue walking.

I follow them from the theater and down the street. The person, I can't tell if they're man or woman, enters a sketchy looking building. I slip in after them, soundlessly.

They produce a key from their pocket and unlock a sad looking door. I slip in before the door closes, catching them off guard.

"What the fuck?" They murmur. "Look, if you're going to kill me, just do it." They sigh. Even their voice is androgynous.
