Calvin's POV
This month has been grueling. In addition to my classes and teaching Carmen what they miss in the afternoons, I've been visiting Liam in the prisons each evening. At the beginning of the month, it was fun. We just sat and talked and learned more about one another.
But, in the last few days, he's started to become more withdrawn. He's become short tempered and his responses have become short as well.
Today, I fear will be the last before he succumbs to the Vampire Sleep. Jackson said he went into a fit of rage before he succumbed. I can only imagine how the Wolves dealt with that.
"Let me out of here, you fucker!" I hear Liam roar as I round the corner to the main prison area.
"Liam, please. Settle down." The guard, Sheirak, pleads with him.
"No! Let me the fuck out!" Liam roars as he bangs on his cell door.
"No. You're spiraling into rage. The safest place for you to be is where you are." Sheirak says calmly.
"Fuck you!" Liam spits as he bangs against the door one more time.
"Hey." I say quietly, stepping to the window.
"Calvin!" Liam shouts, grabbing the bars on his windowed door. "Tell them to let me out, Mo Chroi!" He pleads.
I shake my head sadly. "Liam, you agreed to this. You know that this is where you have to be for a while."
Liam roars and spins away from the door in a rage. He flips his bed upside down and thrashes the small amount of furniture in his cell around.
I look to Sheirak. "Let Father know he's nearing the end stage." I nod to him, and he takes off to report to Dad.
I watch in a sad silence as Liam tears apart his cell. He shreds the mattress, the chair, everything he can get his hands on ends up broken.
"Hey, Cal." I hear Jackson say sadly as he wraps an arm around my shoulders. "I know it's hard to watch. But this is the safest place for him. Otherwise he'd drain you."
I sniffle as a tear drops down my cheek. "I know. I just wish he didn't have to suffer."
"He agreed to this." Jackson pulls me closer into a near crushing hug. "He's just not in his right mind."
"I know." I hug him back. "Thank you."
"Anytime." Jackson chuckles softly, ruffling my hair. "You're my brother as well. Since I'm Bonded to Carmen. And I'd do anything for my family."
We watch in silence as Liam continues to tear apart his cell. After a while, he starts to lose steam. His growling grows quiet, and his movements get slower.
"Fucking shit." He groans. "I know I agreed to this, but damn it." He leans against the wall. He looks toward me and Jackson standing at the door watching him. "I'm sorry for yelling and frightening you, Mo Chroi." He sighs as he slides down the wall. "I'll be waiting for you, Mo Ghra." His eyes slide closed as he slumps against the floor.
"What does that mean?" I whisper, tracing the bars on the window.
"It means 'my love.'" He grins sleepily. "Grow into a wonderful young man. Be strong. Be happy. But most of all, be you."
"I will." I promise him, tears sliding down my face. "I'll look after you, I promise."
"I know you will, Mo Ghra." He smiles. He opens his eyes one more time to look at me. "I'll see you soon." His eyes slide closed once more, and I know he's in the Sleep.
