For the next few days, Leon and Jessie and Nita walked to school, and back from school, together. Nita had taken an instant liking to Jessie, and Leon and Jessie's bond only grew.
One day, Leon confessed that his grades weren't doing so well, and Jessie jumped at the position of being his tutor.
"I thought you said you weren't very smart."
"Well I'm smarter than you."
So every Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, they would go to the library, (Or sometimes each other's house on Sunday), go over homework, and study together. Nita always liked to tag along in hopes of hanging out after.
It was cute how much Nita asked them for advice on her love life/crush; Sandy. So it wasn't too much of a surprise when Nita told them that they were now officially dating. Well, it was more like she yelled, instead of told. They were at the library and all was quiet when she jumped out of her chair yelling,
"SAND AND I DATING. I HIS GIRLFRIEND."
They went out for snow cones afterwards to celebrate.
It was now Monday, and the school was buzzing with excitement, for the date and time of the winter dance was just revealed; in two weeks, on Friday (Where they would have a half day), from seven to nine.
Leon was walking through the packed hallways when someone bumped his shoulder, and a disgruntled looking Jessie appeared at his side. "I swear, if I hear ONE MORE PERSON mention that stupid dance I'm gonna-"
"Jess! Sand asked me to winter dance!" Nita yelled from her group at the other side of the hallway.
He chuckled when Jessie's jaw tensed even more and her eyes started twitching. "What happened to you?" Leon asked, eyes raking over her crazed appearance.
"I was in the bathroom, minding my own business, when a bunch of shallow-headed pigeons-" "You mean girls?" "-You say girls, I say air heads. Anyway, they flocked in and started talking loudly about that darned dance that everyone's so obsessed with. Then they started talking about boys, and I felt like I was in too deep to leave now, it would be SUPER embarrassing to walk by them. So they pretty much were just being little creeps, talking about how good some boys look. And then they all started gossiping about who's taking who and crap. Guess who one of the girls were talking about. Me. Then talking about me brought up Nita, so then they were all tripping over each other talking about her. I knew I had to leave by then. "
She inhaled loudly.
"THEN, they cornered me as I came out of the stall and bombarded me with stupid questions," In a cruelly accurate impression of excited girls, Jessie said, "'Hey, you're around Nita sometimes, who's she taking to the dance' and other stuff like that. I don't even know how I managed to get out of there. They were all looking at me like they wanted to give me a makeover." Jessie shuddered.
Over the days that they hung out, it was slowly coming to Leon that he liked, like, really liked Jessie. But honestly, he was scared to tell her. He was planning to ask her to the dance and confess there.
"Uh, Leon? You kinda fazed out on me."
"Oh, um s-sorry."
The bell rang.
"Still up for the tutoring sesh at the library after school?"
"Yep!"
And they parted ways.
(At the library after school)
"So p equals..."
"45!"
