"B-boyfriend?" Leon stammered.
"Yo, man, did this little girl here not tell you that she was dating someone?" He chuckled cruelly, "And you were about to kiss her. That must suck man."
Leon glanced at Jessie, who was standing there, saying nothing.
"J-Jessie?" Leon begged, hoping this was some sort of mistake, prank, even. She just stayed frozen to her spot.
Well that told him everything he needed to know.
"This entire time? You were in a relationship?! Let me guess, you were going to tell me after the kiss." He didn't bother to keep his rage toned down.
"N-no Leon, it's-it's not like that-" She stuttered
"Then tell me."
She opened her mouth, but then closed it at a loss for words.
Leon dug through is pocket furiously, pulling out a pretty necklace that matched Jessie's bracelet that read- Lessie. He forced it into her hand and stormed away.
'I can't believe it, she was going to string me along... She was stringing me along.' Leon thought, desperate to get back to Rumble Jungle, and his special spot.
Without Bruce, he stomped through the jungle on foot, still in his fancy clothes. Remembering he brought a change of clothes, he put his hoodie on and angrily threw his suit on the ground. Actually- he picked it up- his step-dad paid good money for it. Leon was sure he could recycle it somehow.
Unlike normal, walking made him even more furious. It all reminded him of the walks he had with Jessie. 'Why didn't she say anything?! She made me think she was my friend, that she liked me. She just wanted me for a little fling, a short time, where she gets the best of me, but as soon as I open up or someone cooler comes along... she didn't really care about me. Just like everyone else.'
Finding himself at the waterfall, he slouched down in his spot. Only to think of when Jessie found him here. It felt like the start of a really good, honest friendship. Apparently not. Why did his one special place also have to be tainted with memories of that traitor?
Finally, after nothing but bad thoughts, Leon bitterly headed home. Maybe Bo would let him binge some crappy reality show and eat a tub of ice cream. House in sight, he tripped over a stray branch and face-planted in the ground, scraping his knees. He put his face in his hands and screamed. Everything was going wrong.
He arrived at home and threw the front door open carelessly. The first thing he saw was Bo sitting on the couch with tears running down his eyes as he smiled and flipped through the book in his hands. Leon noticed it was a picture book, the one that was full of his mother, and Nita and him as kids.
Bo looked up in shock at Leon, quickly swiping his tears away. "Are you okay?"
More tears built up behind the dam in Leon's eyes, threatening to spill over. "Yes." What a fat lie. Leon doubted Bo believed him, looking like he did. Hair sticking up everywhere, carrying his suit under his arm, blood running down his legs, crazed eyes, and a flushed face.
Bo raised an eyebrow.
"What, um, what are you doing?" Leon asked, wanting to turn the attention away from him.
Bo gestured to the book beside him, letting out a little chuckle, "Remember, that one time when your mom was pregnant with Nita and she was craving Mickey-D's spicy chicken wings, but they were all out? You and I hopped in the car and drove town to town to find her some food. Here's when we stopped to get some ice cream and went to the nature museum." Bo flipped the book around to show him a picture of a young Leon being held by Bo as little him reached up to touch a display.
