Part 4: The Study Sessions
Chapter 4: The First Tutoring Session
Emma and Jack's tutoring sessions in the library became a battleground of emotions. Emma, overwhelmed with her own academic pressures, was trying to help Jack, whose personal life was in turmoil. Jack's arrival late was just the beginning of a series of complications.
When Jack finally arrived, he looked distracted and anxious. "Sorry I'm late. Had to handle some stuff at home."
Emma was already on edge. "We need to use our time wisely. I've got my own deadlines coming up."
Jack sat down heavily, his usual easygoing demeanor replaced by a strained expression. "I know, Emma. It's just... my mom's been moving her things out of the house. It's like everything's falling apart."
Emma tried to focus on their studies, but Jack's inability to concentrate was palpable. When Jack accidentally spilled coffee on her notes, Emma's frustration reached its peak. "You need to get it together, Jack! I'm trying to help you here, but if you can't focus, this is all pointless."
Jack looked down, guilt and frustration mixing in his eyes. "You don't get it. This isn't just about math problems. My whole life feels like it's in shambles."
Emma took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I know this is hard. Let's just try to get through this, okay?"
Jack nodded, but the atmosphere was thick with unspoken tension.
