6. Capture the Flag

After a whole afternoon of pegasus riding with Kat, I headed to the dining pavilion. Barely anyone ate because they were too excited for Capture the Flag. I was also excited, but mostly nervous. Sure I beat Jason in sword fighting but this was real! What if a fail?

Suddenly all the murmurs stopped when Chiron walked onto the stage. "The teams for Capture the Flag will be Athena, Hermes, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Hephaestus and Dionysus against Ares, Apollo, Zeus, Hades, Demeter and the minor gods." announced the Centaur. There were a few complaints here and there, but the rest were all satisfied with their teammates. "Magical items will be allowed and NO maiming will be tolerated," at those words, Chiron gave the Ares kids a look. "Everyone is dismissed" Chiron then walked off the stage. All the campers also walked out to get ready.

I went straight to the armory. All the armor in there were very big, but I put it on anyway. I then made my way to the blue team where Annabeth was explaining the battle strategy.

"Hermes and Dionysus, you guys are in defense. The Aphrodite and Hephaestus kids will split in half. Half to defence, half will attack. Travis, Connor, have you set up the traps?"

The Stolls nodded with mischevious grins.

"Good. All Athena kids will attack. Piper, Leo and The Stolls will try and distract any red member close to the flag. Luna, you can come with Percy and I to retrieve the red flag. Got it. Now split!"

Everyone ran to where they needed to be. I was impressed. Even though Annabeth was 13, she was a natural born leader.

The horn blew and the game began. I followed Percy and Annabeth to the other side of the forest. They were really fast and I struggled to keep up. We reached the middle of the forest and all you could hear were battle cries and metal clashing. We ran even further until we reached a clearing with a pile of rocks in the middle, which I'm guessing, is Zeus' fist, from all the stories I heard. In the middle of the fist was a red flag. No one was guarding it, which was really odd. This seemed to have reached Annabeth's mind too.

"Luna, you're not to bad with a bow-and-arrow. Climb one of those trees and watch Percy and I. If anyone attacks, shoot them in the leg or something."

I nodded and walked to the nearest tree. Before I could reach it, vines wrapped around us, stopping us from moving. Out popped a dozen Demeter and Apollo kids, along with a rather buff Ares girl. She walked up to us.

"Look what we've got here. It's Prissy and the Smarty Pants Athena girl. And who's this? A newbie"

"It's Luna" I spat in her face. She looked like she wanted to smack me, but didn't. I tried to wriggle out, but the vines tightened.

"You can't get out of there you stupid girl! Your too weak." They all laughed. I started getting angry and felt my hands heating up. My hands had started glowing. The vines didn't seem to like it so I concentrated and the glowing grew brighter. The plants then shriveled away and the glowing died down. They started attacking us.

Two Demeter girls ran to me with swords. I touched my dagger charm and my dagger grew in my hand. The first girl swung to my side, but I blocked and kicked her in the chest. The second tried attacking me from the back. I turned around too late and she hit me with the hilt of her sword in my stomach. I fell back and dropped my dagger. I couldn't reach it so I decided to fight with my fists.

She tried to hit me in the gut again but I side stepped and elbowed her in the back. Her face turned red with anger. She tried charging at me like a bull but I jump out the way and tripped her. She fell face first into some mud. Well...I hope that was mud. Before she could get up, I knocked her against the head. Don't worry. She's not dead. I just knocked her out for a few minutes.

I found my dagger and ran to get the flag, but Annabeth already had it. I have no idea were Percy was, so I followed Annabeth. She was being chased by the other kids that hadn't attacked me and they were on her tail. I ran close behind them, trying not to bet noticed. I touched my bow-and-arrow charm and aimed at the first Apollo kid, who was a metre away from her. The arrow hit him in the foot, causing him to fall and the others behind him fell too. This have me enough space to run to Annabeth.

"Luna! Take the flag. I'll distract them." She gave me the flag and ran in the opposite direction. Most of them followed Annabeth but 5 ran on my direction. They were fast and caught up to me in minutes. They surrounded me, blocking every direction. I was trapped, and had nowhere to go.

Then, out of nowhere, a pack of wolves appeared. They formed a protective circle around me and chased the kids away. I was shocked, but carried on running. The wolves, caught up to me and formed another circle, chasing anyone who came to attack. I made it across the line. The blue team won!

The horn blew and people came to congratulate me, but everyone stopped when they saw the wolves. I was as confused as everyone else, but my questions were answered when a sign appeared above my head. "All hail Luna, daughter of......"
