You woke up the next morning, your eyes slowly fluttering open as you took in the somewhat dim surroundings of your friend's living room. Blinking a few times, you sat up and rubbed the tiredness out of your eyes, glancing to the floor and seeing your two friends still asleep. You didn't want to wake them just yet, and frankly you felt like lying right back down and closing your eyes again. Instead, you reached for your phone, wanting to see what time it was. If it was early you were going to get your ass right back to sleep.

You checked. It was 9:24 am, but that's not what caught your attention. Your eyes landed on a text message from Satoru that he had sent last night, probably after you had fallen asleep. You read over it.

"We need to talk."

What was that about? It gave you a bubbling feeling of anxiety in your chest, and the thought of going back to sleep was now long forgotten. Whenever someone said something like that it usually didn't mean great things. Warily, you pressed on the notification and watched as your phone took you to the messages app, opening up his text. Your mind was already racing with many different theories. Was he going to break it off with you? Was he going to say he found a woman closer to his own age? Was he moving? Had this all been a joke?

Your fingers moved across the keyboard as you typed, asking him what was wrong and what he needed to talk about. You weren't sure how fast he'd respond. He was usually awake at this time, plus it was the weekend as well, but either way each second that passed by with no answer just made you grow more and more anxious and worried. Was this serious? Was this him just playing some dumb joke on you by trying to sound serious? You weren't really sure.

It didn't take too long for you to get a response back, only about six minutes. Your phone vibrated with a notification.

Satoru🤍: "I'm going to come pick you up."

Alright.. that was rather odd. He didn't really answer your question about what he needed to talk about. Why was he avoiding that? Maybe he just wanted to say it in person. That just made you more anxious.

You: "I'm not at my place. I'm at a friend's house."

Satoru🤍: "Send me the address and I'll be there. See you soon."

Silence, at first, when you got into his car. You glanced at him, he was looking out the windshield, his hands gripping the steering wheel. After a beat, he looked at you as well, and you couldn't really make out the expression on his face. He looked worried, but also like he was thinking really hard about something. You opened your mouth to ask what was going on, but he beat you to it.

"I think Suguru knows something about us." He says, clear tension in his voice as he keeps his gaze on your face for a reaction. At first, you weren't sure how to react. You stared at him for a moment, trying to see if he was just joking. However, after his expression remained serious, you got an uncomfortable feeling in your stomach.

"What makes you think that?"

Satoru exhales through his nose and turns his head away for a moment, one of his hands coming up to rub along his jawline in a slightly anxious manner. "He was acting weird a few days ago, asking me about whether or not you're single." He says and pauses, knowing you might just brush it off as curiousness. "The way he looked at me when he asked, y/n, it was a knowing look." He says and turns his head to look at you once more, his brows furrowed a bit.

You stared at him, unsure of what to even say. Suguru might know what you and Satoru have? It wasn't a great thing, but you knew that Suguru was his best friend.. he wouldn't do anything about it.. right? You and Satoru are both adults, albeit the age gap and the fact that he's your professor.

"Are you sure..?" You ask, your fingers fidgeting absentmindedly with the material of your shirt.

Satoru nods. "I'm sure. I've known him for a long time, I can tell when he knows something." He says and sighs, leaning back against the seat of the car and running a hand down over his face. You could tell he was frustrated and anxious.

Turning your body so you were facing him more, you speak. "Are you scared he might say something? Get you fired?"

He stays silent for a small moment, his hand dropping down to rest on his thigh. "I'm not sure, that's why I'm worried. If he's actually interested in you, he'll definitely do something." Satoru says and groans in frustration.

You felt a bit bad now. Maybe if you hadn't gotten involved with him in the first place this whole mess wouldn't be happening. You didn't want to come between his friendship with Suguru after all. "Do you.. want to break up?" You ask, wondering if maybe that was best for his sake, and yours.

Satoru's head snaps to you, his brow raising. "What? Why would I want that?" He asks, but he doesn't really need you to answer. He can tell by the conflicted expression on your face that you feel like this is what's best, at least for right now. He shakes his head, reaching over and cupping the side of your face gently.

"I don't want to break up, okay? Stop worrying, I'll figure something out." He assures you, leaning in and placing a soft, comforting kiss onto your lips before pulling back.

You nodded, reassured for now. From the moments you've had with Suguru, you never thought he was someone who would use any form of blackmail, especially against his own friend. You hoped you were still right about that.

For now, you just decided to trust Satoru.
