Chapter 18: Buck

When I wake up the next morning, my mind is still all over the place. I couldn't fall back asleep for hours after Tommy left my place so I was only able to get a few more hours of sleep.

Now I have to somehow make it through an entire shift without passing out. My head hurt worse right now than it did after I fell in that damn ditch.

I take a quick shower to give myself energy and then head out the door to get to work.

I enter the station and immediately start looking around for everyone but the only person I see is Hen in the locker room.

"Hey, what's up?" I ask as I walk into the locker room to drop off my stuff.

Hen doesn't respond so I look up and catch her smiling at me with a weird look on her face. "What?"

"Oh nothing." She responds without dropping her smile.

I shake my head and continue getting myself situated when Chim enters the station. He is about to enter the locker room when Hen rushes over to him and ushers him out of the room and up the stairs. What is going on this morning?

I make my way out of the locker and go up the stairs, only to see Hen and Chimney giggling like teenage girls in the corner of the room. They haven't noticed I'm here yet so I strain my ears to try and see what they're talking about, but I can't hear a thing.

One second later, Chimney looks up and sees me which causes him to shush Hen. "Okay, can someone tell me what's going on?" I ask them.

"Nope, sorry." Chim says as he gets up and heads back down to the locker room.

I turn back towards Hen. "Don't look at me like that." She says and walks over to the kitchen to get food. What the fuck.

After all of the commotion from the 118 this morning, I was expecting Eddie to show up with a new haircut or something. Which is why I'm shocked when he actually doesn't show up at all.

"Hey, Cap. Where's Eddie? Isn't he scheduled for today?"

"He was but he just called in and said he couldn't be here for the next couple of days."

"What? Is he okay?"

"Yeah he's fine. Just a family emergency."

"Just a family emergency? Why didn't he tell me?"

Bobby looks at me skeptically. "Do I look like Eddie to you?"

I bite my lip and turn away from Bobby as I pull out my phone to text Eddie.

B: You good?

I stay at my phone for almost 5 minutes before he finally responds.

E: Yeah, don't worry about me
E: I'm just going to get Christopher

B: Christopher is coming home??

E: Hopefully

Just the thought of Chris coming home to Eddie and I makes my day feel so much brighter. I can't wait to see them again soon. I hope everything is okay with them though.
