Oncle Jazz (Stylized as oncle jazz) is the fifth full album with 12 tracks written, produced, and performed by Russian-Korean rapper and singer Lyr Dokyeom-Ivanov. It follows the single HAEGUM released in 2022, and comes before the single BANANA SHAKE also released in 2023 and included as a bonus track in the physical copy of the full album.
This album is known as one of the rapper's most successful albums to date, and many attribute this to the fact Lyr stepped away from his harsh, explicit, and more controversal songs to lyrics and themes that were more lighthearted and wholesome, surprising many of the rapper's fans. Tracks from the album such as tiramisu cake, sometimes, every day, song that plays when you encounter a caterpillar, and fun rhythm becoming some of the more popular title track's from the soloist's career. The rhythm and tunes of oncle jazz's tracks remain known for their EDM and bubblegum-pop reminiscent beats.
The album itself had been nominated by news outlets as the best album of 2023, and it actually won on Billboard's Top 10 Kpop Albums of 2023, coming in #1 and described by Billboard as being "a warm fever dream completely and totally governed by the free reign of Lyr's unfiltered and never-wasted talent". The album sold over 40,000 in a week, and was one of the most purchased K-Pop albums of the year, even appearing as number #13 on TIME's list of "Most Bought Albums of 2023".
