Riki arrived in Jeju with nothing but desperation in his heart and Hwayoung's name on his lips. The island, usually a haven of tranquility, felt oppressive under the weight of his fears. He had spent hours scouring the streets, asking anyone who might have seen her, before finally finding her at a secluded beach. She sat on the sand, knees hugged to her chest, staring out at the endless horizon.

When he called her name, his voice cracked, breaking the quiet like a shattering pane of glass. "Hwayoung."

She turned slowly, her face pale and her eyes hollow. The sight of her twisted his heart in ways he hadn't thought possible. He jogged toward her, falling to his knees in front of her as if grounding himself in her presence. For a moment, neither of them spoke.

"Hwayoung," he said again, softer this time. "Why did you leave?"

Her gaze dropped to the sand. "I needed to be alone," she whispered. "I needed time to think."

"You could've told me," he said, his voice trembling. "I was going out of my mind. I thought—" He stopped himself, exhaling shakily. "I thought I lost you."

Hwayoung gave a sad smile. "You're not going to lose me. Not yet."

"But soon?" Riki asked, his voice breaking as he searched her face. "Don't say that. Please."

She didn't answer. Instead, she stared back at the ocean, her silence more damning than any words she could have spoken. Riki clenched his fists, fighting the panic that threatened to consume him. "Hwayoung, I don't care what's happening. I don't care about the time we have left. Just come back with me. Let me be with you. Let me love you."

Her shoulders trembled, and when she looked at him again, tears streamed down her cheeks. "I'm scared, Riki," she admitted, her voice shaking. "I don't want to die."

The raw honesty of her confession hit him like a punch to the gut. He reached for her hands, gripping them tightly as if his touch alone could anchor her to life. "You're not going to die," he said, even though the words felt like a lie. "I won't let you. If I have to trade my life for yours, I'll do it. Let me keep the deal the same, Hwayoung. Let me take your place."

Her brows furrowed in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

Riki hesitated, his heart pounding. This was it. The moment he'd feared and dreaded. "In another life, I made a deal," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I chose power over you, and it killed you. I've regretted it every moment since. But I'll make a new deal. I'll give up everything—my life, my soul—if it means you get to live."

Hwayoung stared at him, the weight of his words sinking in. "Riki," she said, her voice trembling, "you can't. You can't keep throwing yourself away for me."
