I spent the next few hours staring out the window at the landscape. We only stopped once to rest a bit and stretch our legs, but I didn't feel like leaving. I was so tired, but I didn't want to sleep.
I felt like a cat being crushed by a car. I was angry because they hit me, but the prevailing feeling was pain. Come to think of it, it would be better to be a crushed and sore cat than to lose the only person who cared about you in the slightest. Or so you thought. When I saw a cat outside the window I almost smiled. If I ever had the chance I would have a small cat and a huge dog, because it would be fun to see them fight. The cat would have a bad temper, but would be gentle with me and the dog would be the most loyal, kind and affectionate animal in the world.
I sighed, because nothing was real, but I would do anything to make it so.
At a certain point I see that we are entering the airport and I straighten my back. The small car stops next to a black van. Everyone gets out and I do the same. A man dressed in black greets Steve, but his gaze focuses on me and James.
There's something in the air that gives me goosebumps. I put my hand behind my neck as a girl steps out of the van.
She was dressed in red, her hair fell in light waves, but it was her presence that intrigued me. Our eyes meet and I think I've seen her somewhere before. The girl approaches me and I don't move, but I feel James take a few small steps towards me. I look at him with indifference and walk towards the girl.
When we are one step away from each other she tilts her head, but I don't let myself be intimidated.
"You're Shadow," his voice isn't judgmental.
"Not anymore,"
He smiles and holds out his hand. "Wanda,"
"Nyla," I shake it.
The atmosphere lightened, his hand was warm and his smile welcoming, sincere. I didn't trust her yet, but I had a good feeling.
"I thought you were older," he says cheerfully.
I look at her confused but then giggle. "I think I'm just a few decades older than you,"
"Well, you don't look that old," he chuckles.
"Well, enough chitchat," says the man who introduced himself as Clint. "I have a new recruit, but I must warn you that it took a lot of coffee to wake him up,"
Another man wakes up to the sound of the van and jumps. As soon as he sees Steve he holds out his hand.
"Captain America, what an honor to meet you," they shake hands a little too long and I start to worry a little that one of their hands will fall off but then they finally stop.
"They evacuated the airport," James says to those who don't understand.
"They know we're here," Rogers says.
