"If that means I get to kiss a hot kook princess, I'm in!"
It all started with a game of truth or dare and a strong hunger for revenge.

021 | THE GOLD |
The full moon lit the path as the six teenagers made their way toward the Crain's house. Its old exterior was surrounded by trees, with dark windows straight out of a horror movie.
The gold had to be in there. Otherwise, they were risking their lives for nothing.
Jade Griffin, however, didn't care about the gold. Her mind was elsewhere, tangled in relationship problems and a long list of bad choices. Terrible ones.
"You really think I can just pretend you didn't spend the night with your ex boyfriend?" JJ whispered, his voice tight as he struggled to hold his anger back. The moment he'd heard the news, something inside him had snapped.
Jade didn't see it the same way. It wasn't like she had cheated on him. She helped Rafe. Nothing more. "Nothing happened, I swear," she insisted, her voice rising, too loud for a whisper.
"I'm a guy. I know how guys think," JJ shot back, his jaw clenched.
Everyone knew how badly Rafe Cameron wanted his ex girlfriend back. Letting him stay over was risky. No one thought it was a good idea. Especially not JJ.
"I bet he wanted more than just a place to sleep." JJ dragged a hand through his messy hair, the image burning in his mind. Another guy wanting her. Touching her. "I bet he would've killed to touch you the way he used to."
Jade stepped forward, trying to calm him, but JJ stepped back. The distance between them felt heavier than words. He didn't believe her.
She pressed her lips together as guilt twisted in her stomach. "And you think I would've let him?" she asked, moving closer again. JJ stayed still, though his hands trembled, anger taking over. She noticed and quickly laced her fingers through his, holding on tight, hoping it would be enough.
JJ closed his eyes, his brows pulling together as he fought the storm in his head. He wanted to melt into her touch. God, he wanted to. But doubt stopped him. "I don't know," he murmured. "Would you?"
Their hands fell apart.
Jade took a step back. "Do you really think I could cheat on you?" she asked, like the answer should be obvious.
But it wasn't.
Deep down, even she wasn't sure. Did Rafe still have that kind of power over her? If he hadn't cheated on her... would she have still chosen JJ?
Her silence only fed his doubt. JJ looked at her with wide, wounded eyes, searching her face for something. Anything that would reassure him. He asked one last question, his voice barely holding together. "Promise me you don't feel anything for him anymore."
