April 21

My recovery took some time. I had some light headaches. Eventually, I was at least able to sit upright and do some homework with Penelope. God German was insufferable.

¹Warum musste ich eine Sprache so gut kennen? Oh ja, es ist Deutschland, Jippie.

"² 'Ich esse ein Brötchen', sagt Thomas.' So we have to put it in indirect speech." She explained. Her voice was louder than usual. I knew German, I mean, I live in Germany, but I'm thankful for her help.

"³Dann ist es doch 'Thomas hat gesagt Dass er ein brötchen haben will." The light in the room hurt my eyes, Everything I was feeling was too much. Too Much. My eyes blinked and I tried to rub it and pretend it wasn't there.

"Good job. I think that's the last question." I winced as the sound of Penelope's pen tapping against the table felt like tiny hammers pounding in her head.

I felt something bubbling up in my stomach. The room's light got too bright, and everything felt loud. I tried to rub my eyes, but it was no use. The memories of yesterday's events still lingered in my brain. My clothes felt like it was made from gold, it felt heavy and strong. The feel of pollen flickered to my nose and made it worse than usual, I felt nauseous and my head began to spin.

Too much. Too much. Too much. Too much. Too much. Too much. Too much. TOO MUCH

I could practically hear my heart in my head. TOO LOUD

My scars were burning like there was lava on top of it. Something was wrong. It's really wrong.

I could hear exactly everything, but ten times more than usual. I pressed my hands over my ears, "HAZEL!" It felt like someone's voice was screaming at me even though Penelope probably said my name like a normal person.

"Hey, hey hey hey. Woah. Hazel, lie your head backward." Penelope crawled over to tilt my head backward. "Hazel, what's going on?"

"WHAT'S GOING ON-" is how I heard it.

"Stop screaming at me. You're too loud!

"I'M NOT SCREAMING, HAZEL TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON?"

"My ears - The lights- It's all too much- Ah fuck it all hurts-" My water fell off of my Nightstand in panic, Penelope was so confused but understood the situation. She instantly stood up to turn the lights off and tried looking for something to solve my ear problem. She grabbed some headphones my dad bought me for Christmas a few years ago. They were noise cancelling. She put it over my ears and tried to soothe me.

I instantly groaned when she touched my forearm. She noticed this and stopped. This was going to end badly if she continued. She lightly got off the bed and got some light blankets over me, but not forcefully.

My head was spinning, and there was a loud ringing in my ear. It was deafening.

Penelope tried to get me some water, but when it entered my mouth, I felt the worst pain of my life. "Stop!- STOP -"

Penelope stayed on the side, staying to make sure I didn't go back to whatever the hell just happened.

I heard a voice, a familiar one, but under my headphones, I could barely understand what they were saying. My sight was disoriented, so seeing the person was not possible. The smell of everything was happening all at once.

The only way to describe anything was pain.

And I felt terrible for screaming.

After about 2-3 hours. Penelope slowly removed my headphones, whispering. "Are you ok?" Which I would nod to.

"What was that?" My voice was raspy.

"There's only one thing to describe it."

《Sensory overload"》

¹Why do I have to know a language so well? Oh yeah, it's Germany, yippee.

²I'm eating a roll,' says Thomas.'

³Thomas said he wanted a roll.
