Evening
Eventually, Penelope had to leave, but before she did, she gave me a hug. An affectionate one. Tomorrow was school anyway.
April 15, Monday morning
The next day came too quickly, and now I was standing at 6 am in my room mirror. "Hazel! we need to leave!" Mom yelled just as I was about to grab my bag. I swung it over my shoulder and climbed downstairs. She looked annoyed. She opened the door and locked it after I was out. I climbed into the back of the car, knowing my sister was in the passenger seat. "Morning.." she said in a tired tone.
"Morning.."
My eyes were glued to the window as mom finally climbed into the car, and we started moving.
Once we arrived at my school, Frankie and I climbed out, and mom stormed away. My hands pushed the doors of my school open, and at my locker stood Penelope. She hugged me very, very tightly as I put in my locker combination.
"You ok, Baby Hazel?" She joked as she leaned into the locker next to mine. "Yeah, just tired.."
"Mhmmm.."
She played with the bracelet we made when we were 9. We were in arts and crafts, and our teacher told us to partner up with someone and make something special for the partner. She never took it off.
I looked at mine. The orange was mixed with pink and white. All my favourite colours mixed together. "Baby, are you telling me the truth-" I suddenly heard a very loud voice yelling into the school recorder.
"Everyone! I have something very interesting to tell all of you! You all know our lovely little baby Hazel, don't we?" My head grew confused. What was going on?
He slowly approached us with a microphone. It was Mathew.
"Baby Hazel has a secret, a dirty little secret." Penelope clenched her fists, her knuckles whitening as Matthew smirked. She could feel the heat rise inside her, her jaw tightening. Don't do this, she told herself. But as his words echoed in her mind "Our little baby Hazel hurts herself" something snapped. He grabbed my arm and ripped the sleeves to reveal... My scars..
"The hell is wrong with you!" Penelope said before punching him in the face. His nose was bleeding, and she kept on punching. Moyo and Aaliyah were cheering her on as she beat his ass.
After a while, she stopped. Her knuckles are red with blood. My face grew very concerned. She is definitely getting expelled. The bell finally rang. She took my hand and grabbed a tissue to clean off the blood. Mathew was sent to the nurses office, but he was fine. She decided to walk me out of school.
She took out her keys and opened up her house. What surprised me was that there weren't any cars in her driveway. Usually, her parents work from home. Maybe they have a meeting? We made it to her kitchen, where she picked me up and sat me on the counter. "Did you seriously punch him all because you want to have some alone time?" She looked through the fridge.
"No, he's just an ass."
"True."
She took out her soda and two cups. She poured some in and gave me the second glass.
She sat on the counter next to me and chugged everything down. "I needed to get some emotion out, especially when he said that." I looked down onto my wrists, but she grabbed my hands soft and gently. "Hazel, you know I'm here for you. I love you.." My eyes met her black ones as I forgot how to speak normal words. "Hazel, I'm not a cop, I want to be here for you."
"I know."《I know, and I do too》
