The first light of dawn peeked through the thin paper screens of the window, casting a soft, golden hue across the room. Wei Wuxian stirred, blinking against the brightness, disoriented for a moment by the unfamiliar surroundings. The events of the previous day flooded back to him in a rush - the wedding, the dance, the journey to Lotus Pier, and finally, their first night together.

He turned his head slightly and saw Lan Wangji lying next to him, still asleep. His face was relaxed, his features softened by sleep, and for the first time, Wei Wuxian saw him without the weight of his responsibilities and discipline. Lan Wangji looked... serene. Almost boyish, in a way that made Wei Wuxian's heart clench with an unexpected fondness.

Wei Wuxian watched him for a moment, not wanting to disturb the peace of the morning. He felt a strange flutter in his chest, a mixture of nervousness and excitement. They had slept side by side, closer than they ever had before, but nothing more. Yet even that simple proximity felt like a step forward, a tentative bridge being built between their worlds.

**An Unlikely Start to the Day**

After a while, Wei Wuxian felt the urge to move, his body still filled with restless energy. He stretched, trying to shake off the stiffness from their long journey and the unfamiliarity of the bed. He sat up slowly, careful not to wake Lan Wangji. However, the slight creak of the bed frame seemed to stir him awake.

Lan Wangji's eyes fluttered open, clear and alert almost instantly. He blinked once, adjusting to the light, and his gaze immediately found Wei Wuxian. "Good morning, Wei Ying," he greeted softly, his voice still tinged with sleep.

Wei Wuxian grinned, his usual mischief bubbling to the surface. "Good morning, Lan Zhan! Did you sleep well?" he asked, his tone playful.

Lan Wangji's lips curved into a faint smile, a rare and precious sight. "I did," he replied, sitting up slowly. "And you?"

Wei Wuxian stretched his arms above his head, yawning dramatically. "I did too! Better than I expected, actually," he admitted. "I thought it might feel... awkward, but it wasn't so bad."

Lan Wangji nodded. "I am glad," he said quietly. "It is... new for both of us."

Wei Wuxian chuckled. "That's one way to put it," he replied. "But I think we're doing alright so far."

**Breakfast with the Lans**

Just as they were settling into this newfound comfort, there was a soft knock on the door. Wei Wuxian jumped slightly, glancing at Lan Wangji with a questioning look. "Come in," Lan Wangji called out.

The door slid open to reveal Lan Xichen, his serene smile greeting them. "Good morning," he said warmly. "I hope you both rested well."

Wei Wuxian smiled back, feeling a bit of the tension ease from his shoulders. "Morning, Lan Xichen! We did, thank you."

Lan Xichen's eyes twinkled with amusement at Wei Wuxian's enthusiasm. "I am glad to hear that," he replied. "Breakfast will be served in the main hall soon. I thought you might want to join us."

Wei Wuxian nodded eagerly. "That sounds great!" he said. He turned to Lan Wangji. "Shall we, Lan Zhan?"

Lan Wangji gave a small nod. "Yes, let us go," he agreed.

As they made their way to the main hall, Wei Wuxian couldn't help but notice the curious glances they received from some of the disciples. It seemed that news of their marriage had spread quickly, and there was a mix of curiosity and apprehension in the air. He felt a flush of self-consciousness but quickly brushed it aside. He was Wei Wuxian, after all - he could handle a few stares.

Lan Wangji, as usual, walked beside him with an air of calm confidence, his presence steady and reassuring. Wei Wuxian took comfort in that, feeling a little less like an outsider and more like he belonged, at least a little.

When they entered the main hall, several elders were already seated, as were a few other disciples. The table was laid out with a variety of dishes, from steamed buns to pickled vegetables and bowls of congee. Wei Wuxian's stomach rumbled at the sight, and he grinned, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.

**An Unexpected Interruption**

They took their seats, and just as Wei Wuxian was about to dig in, a voice interrupted them. "Wei Wuxian," came a sharp voice from the other end of the hall. Wei Wuxian looked up, his smile faltering slightly as he saw Lan Qiren approaching, his face stern.

"Uncle," Lan Wangji greeted respectfully, bowing his head.

Lan Qiren nodded to Lan Wangji before turning his gaze back to Wei Wuxian. "Wei Wuxian, it seems that you have integrated well enough so far," he began, his tone measured. "But there are still many rules of the Lan clan that you must learn and follow if you are to be a part of this family."

Wei Wuxian straightened up, his expression earnest. "Of course, Lan Qiren," he replied, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "I'll do my best to remember all the rules."

Lan Qiren's eyebrows furrowed slightly, sensing the playful undertone. "This is not a matter to be taken lightly," he admonished. "The reputation of the Lan clan must be upheld, and you are now a part of that."

Wei Wuxian nodded, keeping his expression serious. "I understand, Lan Qiren. I promise to be on my best behavior," he said, although his eyes still twinkled with mischief.

Lan Qiren sighed, clearly not entirely convinced, but he nodded curtly. "Very well. I hope you mean it," he replied before turning and heading back to his seat.

Wei Wuxian waited until Lan Qiren was out of earshot before leaning closer to Lan Wangji. "Your uncle is quite the disciplinarian, isn't he?" he whispered with a grin.

Lan Wangji's lips twitched, but he simply nodded. "He cares deeply for the clan," he replied. "But do not worry, Wei Ying. You will learn in time."

Wei Wuxian chuckled. "I'll do my best, Lan Zhan. But no promises."

**A Moment of Understanding**

As they ate, Wei Wuxian felt himself slowly relaxing, enjoying the warm atmosphere. The food was simple but delicious, and he found himself reaching for more. He noticed Lan Wangji watching him with an amused expression and grinned. "What? I'm hungry!" he defended playfully.

Lan Wangji shook his head, but there was a fondness in his eyes. "You are always hungry, Wei Ying," he remarked.

Wei Wuxian laughed. "Well, I need my strength, don't I?" he replied with a wink.

Lan Wangji's gaze softened, and for a moment, they just looked at each other, a silent understanding passing between them. Wei Wuxian felt his heart warm at the sight, a sense of comfort settling over him. Maybe this marriage would not be so difficult after all.
