The sun was already beginning its slow descent beyond the mountains, casting long, golden shadows across the grounds of the Cloud Recesses. The delicate scent of cherry blossoms filled the air, mingling with the cool breeze that swept gently through the trees. Wei Wuxian, having grown more comfortable in his new surroundings, was practically skipping along the path, his bright eyes wide with curiosity and excitement.

Lan Wangji walked beside him, his pace steady and composed, his expression as calm as ever. Yet, beneath that calm exterior, there was a flicker of something else, something uncertain that tugged at his usually disciplined heart.

Wei Wuxian was like a whirlwind of energy, darting from one thing to another, his small hands reaching out to touch the petals of the flowers or examine the stones lining the path. He was so different from anyone Lan Wangji had ever known, so full of life and light, and yet, so young - just a child, really, caught in a situation far beyond his years.

A Small Adventure

As they wandered, Wei Wuxian suddenly turned to Lan Wangji with a wide grin. "Lan Zhan! Show me something interesting!" he exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

Lan Wangji blinked, slightly taken aback by the request. "Something... interesting?" he repeated, unsure of what Wei Wuxian meant.

"Yes!" Wei Wuxian nodded enthusiastically. "Something fun! I want to see what makes you happy, Lan Zhan!" His expression was so innocent, so full of genuine curiosity, that Lan Wangji found himself softening in response.

He hesitated for a moment, then spoke softly, "There is a place... by the river, where I often go to practice my guqin. It is... peaceful there."

Wei Wuxian's eyes lit up. "Really? Oh, please take me there, Lan Zhan! I'd love to see it!" he pleaded.

Lan Wangji's lips curved into a small smile. "Very well," he agreed, turning to lead the way. As they walked, he felt a strange warmth in his chest, a quiet contentment at the thought of sharing something personal with Wei Wuxian, even if the boy was too young to fully understand its significance.

They soon arrived at a small clearing by the riverbank, where a stone pavilion stood surrounded by lush greenery. The sound of water flowing over rocks filled the air, a gentle, soothing melody. Lan Wangji led Wei Wuxian to the pavilion, where a guqin rested on a stone table.

Wei Wuxian's eyes widened with wonder as he looked around. "Wow, this place is beautiful, Lan Zhan!" he exclaimed, running his fingers over the smooth surface of the guqin. "Do you play here often?"

Lan Wangji nodded. "Yes, when I seek tranquility... or need to clear my mind," he replied softly.

Wei Wuxian tilted his head, a puzzled look on his face. "Clear your mind? Why would you need to do that?" he asked, genuinely curious.

Lan Wangji hesitated, searching for the right words. "Sometimes... emotions can cloud judgment," he explained carefully. "Playing the guqin helps me find balance."

Wei Wuxian blinked, clearly not fully understanding, but he nodded anyway. "That sounds... nice," he said slowly. "Can you play something for me, Lan Zhan?"

Lan Wangji felt his heart flutter slightly at the request. He had never played for anyone other than his brother before. But there was something about the eager look on Wei Wuxian's face that made him want to share this part of himself. He sat down at the guqin, his fingers poised over the strings.

**A Melody and an Awakening**

He began to play, his fingers moving gracefully over the strings, producing a soft, melodious tune that seemed to float on the breeze. The notes were gentle, soothing, and yet, there was a quiet strength to them, a depth of emotion that belied Lan Wangji's usual stoic demeanor.
