Several months had passed since the revelation of Wei Wuxian’s pregnancy, and the initial shock had slowly given way to a sense of acceptance and cautious excitement. Wei Wuxian’s body had changed significantly, his once flat stomach now a gentle curve, showing the undeniable evidence of the life growing within him. He still experienced moments of insecurity—his once agile and energetic self was now often tired and clumsy—but with Lan Wangji’s unwavering support, he was beginning to feel a quiet sense of peace about the future.
The entire Cloud Recesses had been abuzz with the news of the child. The Lan elders, who once spoke in hushed tones about their union, had shifted their focus, now eager to welcome the child as a symbol of the continuation of the Lan Clan’s legacy. However, the attention brought its own pressures. Wei Wuxian felt the weight of everyone’s expectations on his shoulders. What kind of father would he be? Would he raise the child in the way the clans would approve?
It was one of those days, filled with such thoughts, that Wei Wuxian found himself sitting in the Jingshi, absentmindedly rubbing his swollen belly as he stared out the window. He felt the baby kick lightly, bringing a small smile to his lips.
“Lan Zhan, do you think the baby will like me?” Wei Wuxian asked suddenly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Lan Wangji, who was seated across the room, reviewing some scrolls, looked up in surprise. He had been so focused on Wei Wuxian’s health that he hadn’t realized how much his husband was worrying about things beyond the pregnancy.
He stood up, walking over to Wei Wuxian’s side and kneeling before him. “Wei Ying,” he said softly, placing his hand over Wei Wuxian’s, where it rested on his belly, “the child is part of you. Of course, they will love you.”
Wei Wuxian blinked away the tears that threatened to fall. “I just... I don’t know what kind of father I’ll be. I didn’t exactly have the best example growing up.”
Lan Wangji’s expression softened, and he squeezed Wei Wuxian’s hand gently. “You have always been kind, brave, and full of love. That is what our child will know. And I will be by your side, always.”
Wei Wuxian let out a shaky breath, leaning into Lan Wangji’s shoulder for comfort. “I know, Lan Zhan. I just... I don’t want to disappoint anyone.”
“You will not disappoint anyone,” Lan Wangji reassured him, his voice full of quiet conviction. “You are more than enough.”
Wei Wuxian smiled through his tears, his heart full. “Thank you, Lan Zhan.”

The Arrival of the Child
As the months passed, the due date approached quickly. The night of the birth came unexpectedly. Wei Wuxian had been restless all day, pacing around the Jingshi, feeling a strange discomfort in his back. By evening, the discomfort turned into sharp pain, and before they knew it, the midwives were called in, and Lan Wangji was by Wei Wuxian’s side, holding his hand as the labor began.
The process was long and exhausting, with Wei Wuxian’s energy depleting rapidly. His normally sharp tongue was silenced by the intensity of the experience, leaving him gripping onto Lan Wangji’s hand with every wave of pain. Lan Wangji, though calm on the outside, was internally battling his own anxieties. He hated seeing Wei Wuxian in pain, but there was nothing he could do except stay by his side.
Hours passed, and finally, as dawn broke over the Cloud Recesses, the cries of a newborn baby filled the room. The midwives smiled as they wrapped the tiny infant in soft cloth, handing the child to Wei Wuxian, who lay back on the bed, exhausted but relieved.
