As summer turned to autumn, the Cloud Recesses regained its usual peaceful rhythm. Wei Wuxian's recovery progressed smoothly, and he was soon back to his lively self, running through the courtyards and teasing the Lan disciples. Though his body had healed, Wei Wuxian couldn't help but feel that something within him was different, something he couldn't quite put into words.

Lan Wangji, too, felt the subtle shift. He was always careful to keep a respectful distance, but his eyes often lingered on Wei Wuxian a little too long. It was as if an invisible thread connected them, pulling them closer even when they weren't speaking. Lan Wangji's heart would race unexpectedly when Wei Wuxian laughed or smiled at him, a warmth blooming in his chest that felt new and unfamiliar.

**A Shared Moment in the Library Pavilion**

One crisp afternoon, Lan Wangji found Wei Wuxian in the library pavilion, surrounded by books. Wei Wuxian had a knack for sneaking in and rifling through scrolls he wasn't supposed to read, and today was no different. He was engrossed in a particularly old text, his brow furrowed in concentration.

Lan Wangji approached quietly, the soft rustle of his robes alerting Wei Wuxian to his presence. Wei Wuxian glanced up, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Lan Zhan! Look what I found," he said, holding up the scroll. "It's got all these ancient techniques! I bet we could use them to-"

"Wei Ying," Lan Wangji interrupted gently, a faint smile tugging at his lips despite his attempt to remain stern. "Those scrolls are not meant for casual study."

Wei Wuxian pouted, setting the scroll down with a dramatic sigh. "You're no fun, Lan Zhan," he teased, though his tone was light and playful. "I just wanted to see what kind of cool stuff your clan has hidden away."

Lan Wangji's gaze softened as he looked at Wei Wuxian, his expression a mix of exasperation and fondness. "There are rules," he said quietly, but the reprimand lacked its usual bite.

Wei Wuxian leaned back, stretching his arms above his head as he yawned. "Rules, rules, rules," he muttered, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Sometimes, Lan Zhan, I think you care too much about them."

Lan Wangji didn't respond immediately. Instead, he sat down beside Wei Wuxian, his posture relaxed yet elegant. The silence stretched between them, comfortable and familiar, like an old, well-worn cloak. As they sat there, the sunlight filtering through the pavilion's windows cast a warm glow around them, highlighting the quiet intimacy of the moment.

After a while, Wei Wuxian glanced over at Lan Wangji, his smile softening. "Hey, Lan Zhan," he said, his voice uncharacteristically subdued. "Why are you always so nice to me?"

Lan Wangji turned his head slightly, meeting Wei Wuxian's gaze. The question caught him off guard, and for a moment, he didn't know how to answer. How could he explain the pull he felt toward Wei Ying, the way his heart seemed to beat in time with the other boy's laughter?

"I... value our friendship," Lan Wangji said finally, his voice steady but tinged with a hint of something more. "You are... important to me."

Wei Wuxian's eyes widened, and he felt a strange warmth spread through his chest at Lan Wangji's words. "You mean that?" he asked softly, his usual bravado giving way to a rare vulnerability.

Lan Wangji nodded, his expression earnest. "I do," he said simply, his gaze unwavering.

Wei Wuxian looked away, suddenly feeling self-conscious under Lan Wangji's intense gaze. His heart fluttered in a way that was both exhilarating and confusing. He wasn't sure what to make of the emotions swirling inside him - they were different from anything he had felt before, more complex and intense.
