"Have you talked to Malfoy about the poachers in the forest?" Pansy asked, her voice low as we strolled towards Hogsmeade.
I took a long drag from my cigarette, exhaling slowly.
"Says he knows nothing, but I don't know, something's off."
"He's definitely been avoiding us." She mused, then nudged me with a sly grin. "What did you do to him over the holidays? You've scared him off."
I smirked. "Nothing that I can think of. Though, I suspect he's sulking over the lack of attention he got. All eyes were on me with the training and stuff."
Pansy studied me, her eyes narrowing. "And your father? Any updates?"
"Still nothing." I muttered. "But Narcissa's on edge. She was quite cryptic with her letters."
Behind us, Astoria and Theo's laughter rang out.
I spun around, irritation flaring. "Will you two just fuck already and get it over with!"
Their faces flushed as they hurried to catch up, exchanging furtive glances.
"Wasn't Enzo supposed to meet us on our way?" Pansy wondered aloud, linking arms with Astoria.
Theo chuckled, fishing out a joint from his pocket. "I think Enzo's a bit preoccupied with one dragon-slayer."
My head snapped towards him.
"He actually asked her out?"
"Oh, he did." Theo confirmed, grinning. "Witnessed the spectacle myself. Fumbled so badly she probably agreed out of pity."
I felt a twinge of...Something.
Astoria sighed dreamily. "Enzo fumbling? He must genuinely fancy her then."
Pansy scoffed. "Fancy her? Please. Like I said to Matt, she's obviously just a name he can tick off his stupid little list."
"Now, now, Pans." Theo interjected. "Our Enzo's a changed man."
Pansy's laugh was sharp. "Boys don't change overnight, Theo."
The Three Broomsticks buzzed with activity, packed with students.
As we squeezed into a booth, I felt the weight of glances and hushed whispers from the older patrons.
The Daily Prophet made sure my face was infamous, but no one dared approach.
They knew better than to provoke.
Several rounds in, the cute blonde bartender sauntered over.
"Another round?" She asked, her eyes lingering on me a beat too long.
I smirked, entertaining possibilities. Time I'd move on, Corrina certainly had.
"Yes, please!" Astoria chirped, oblivious to the bartender's interest.
