We were now mere inches apart. I leaned down, my face level with hers, my eyes blazing with barely contained fury.
"You don't want to make an enemy of me, Hawke." I growled.
Lyanna swallowed hard, but her gaze remained defiant. "I'm not afraid of y...
Enzo's voice echoed through the corridor, cutting through the din of chattering students.
I suppressed a groan, my shoulders tensing as he caught up with me.
"It's Wednesday, Enzo. Can you move on already?" I muttered, shouldering past a group of second years.
He laughed, the sound grating on my already frayed nerves.
"I can't help it, mate. It came out of nowhere. I'm guessing Corrina hasn't spoken to you?"
"Obviously not." I snapped, then quickly changed the subject, desperate to avoid that particular minefield.
"Shouldn't you be off pursuing the dragon-slayer?"
"Yeah, about that..." Enzo's voice took on an uncharacteristically hesitant tone as he stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
His eyes darted nervously, refusing to meet mine.
"So it turns out, she's actually pretty cool, and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind if I like, maybe, kind of—"
I rolled my eyes, impatience and a growing sense of unease battling within me.
"Spit it out, I don't have all day."
"Asked her out?" He finally blurted, his face scrunched up as if bracing for impact.
Time seemed to slow as I processed his words.
If Enzo got with Lyanna, he could potentially convince her to take my offer.
Those abilities could be mine soon enough. The thought sent a shiver of anticipation down my spine.
"You know what, go for it." I said, plastering on a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes as I clapped him on the shoulder.
Enzo's brows furrowed, suspicion clouding his features.
"Eh, really? It wouldn't bother you?"
"It would probably bother Pansy more, if I'm honest." I deflected, the lie slipping easily from my lips.
"Yeah, I'm not asking her." He chuckled, relief evident in his voice. "Brilliant, ok, I'm going to do it, I'm going to ask her out."
I maintained my fake smile, watching as excitement replaced the nervousness on Enzo's face.

I tossed and turned, sleep eluding me that evening.
Frustrated, I threw on my jeans, hoodie, and trainers, seeking solace in the Astronomy tower's familiar solitude.
I Perched, feet dangling over the edge as always, three beers down, I inhaled deeply from my cigarette.
The smoke curled lazily in the night air, momentarily obscuring my view. As it cleared, a flash of red caught my eye – Lyanna's hair, bouncing towards the school gate.
