A Girl with Dreams to Fly

My hopes were crushed, my wings were torn,
A girl, that's what I was born. "Behave like one," I heard them say,
"Be decent, tolerate what comes your way."

Jeans and skirts, blue and pink,
A bitter difference I had to drink.
Silent tears behind a smile,
Hiding pain, mile after mile.

Trapped in culture, I played my part,
But there were dreams caged in my heart.
My silence made me realize the power of my voice,
I learned to speak and make my own choice.

Even if my wings were once torn,
A new fire within me was born.
I'll fly above and soar so high,
A girl with dreams that touch the sky.
