Story of an Angel

She was an angel they say

With wings of fluttering light

She reached for the sky

And danced through darkest night

People watched her

But she watched people

And she saw the world

Standing atop the highest steeple

Her smile was grace

And her eyes were love

She wore beauty about her

As pure white gloves

She was an angel they say

She loved those who loved her

And loved more those who didn't

She held withered old hands

And kissed the cheeks of children

She was a friend to the world

And a lover to the broken

Her hands held tight

To the lost and stolen

Smiling with grace filled lips

And speaking with lovely words

A voice from heaven

She was an angel they say

But she fell from grace

She was a friend to a world

That loved nothing but hate

While her hands held on tight

Those around her let go

The angel of light

Had nowhere to go

A smile for other people

Left tear stains on her cheeks

So the angel climbed the highest steeple

And tested her flightless wings
