I know you don't understand the reasons I hide
You might never find truth in my little white lies
Likely the fact that I won't meet your eyes
Will lead to your quick and silent goodbye
My reasons for running don't make much sense
And you likely won't get why you make me so tense
To tell you the truth I have no defense
I deserve each and every consequence
So when I avoid your eyes or flinch at your touch
You might think it means I don't like you so much
But I'm begging you, please, don't follow that hunch
Because I'm someone who runs from feeling too much
When I won't meet your eyes and I look down from your face
I want you to see my cold heart race
And when I run from your smile with such little grace
A part of me hope you'll only give chase
My lips might appear to be closed and sealed tight
But there's a key that fits my heart just right
When I possible holder of that key comes in sight
My only reaction is to give sudden flight
If I open my heart and give it away
How do I know you are here to stay
And you may truly want to keep me today
But will you always overcome tomorrows sway?
I've been tossed in the dirt too many times before
And I promised myself it wouldn't happen anymore
Can I trust you to let me keep what I swore
If you can show me how to trust, then I'll forever be yours
