The Girl in the Old House

There is a light on in the old house

Though it is night and all sleep in town

Shadows pass the window pane

But no one wakes or hears a sound

There are voices talking in the old house

There are hushing noises and cut off screams

Figures huddle around one small form

It cries for help, but no one cares, it seems

There is hurt that fills the old house

To the roofs tip-top to the basement's dirt ground

Because not one hears and not one sees

The one who needs their help won't be found

There is a girl leaving the old house

After years of misery spent within

But, despite her leaving, she is still trapped

She'll never be free of nightmares and sins

Maybe one day she'll learn to come home

But right now all she knows is how to be alone

And maybe one day she'll be in someone's arms

But right now her only comfort comes from doing herself harm

Maybe one day she can put a smile on her face

But right now her happiness can find no place

And maybe one day she'll be saved from her hell

But first she'll have to find the strength to tell
