Later that evening, Kie made John B, JJ, and Pope put on their best shirts. They had to look presentable. Kie wore a light purple sundress with a sweater over her arms. JJ and John B wore the nicest plain shirts they owned. And Pope wore a navy button-up.
"Oh, thank goodness, you guys made it." Kie sighed, walking away from her mom and over to her friends.
"You ever seen so many Kooks in one place?" Pope asked, looking at John B and JJ.
"Yeah, Midsummers," JJ smirked, looking around the room.
"I've been here since everyone started showing up... I can't avoid my grandmother anymore." Kie rolled her eyes, guiding the three boys over to the side of the living room.
"Would you just look at her? Can you believe we will have a wedding in just a few weeks. Gonna look so beautiful in white," Kie's grandmother, Delilah Richards, smiled as she talked to some of her book club members and some of the members of the Better Island club. She had her arm interlocked with her youngest daughter, Kai, wearing a white dress.

"That's Kalani, or Kai as they call her.
Her older sister is Kie's mom, Anna. Kai was the golden child of her parents, especially her mother.
Shame came to the Richards family when Anna ran off to marry a Pogue. They were one of the most prominent families of Kooks in Kildare County, which is why Kai was forced to be "better" than her sister. She helped run a bunch of charity events with her mother. She was only twenty but raised to be a perfect Kook housewife. Marrying another prominent Kook, Rafe Cameron.
The two of them have practically been engaged since they were little.
Kai was kind. She did anything her mother wanted. It was the only way to keep the peace. The stark opposite of her soon-to-be husband."

"Figured I'd find you in here," Kai said as she leaned on the doorframe of the more quiet study.
