Meanwhile, on the Figure Eight.
"Jeez, man, this is nuts..." Topper sighed, walking with Kelce and Rafe around the neighborhood while they examined the damage from the hurricane, which was still being cleaned up. Rafe walked with his arm around Kai. The two tended to be attached at the hip.
When the Cameron family moved into Tannyhill, Delilah Richards saw dollar signs in her future. There was nearly a fifteen-year age gap between Anna and Kai. Anna got pregnant with Kie when she was nineteen. Kai, who was almost four at the time, was forced to be the perfect child. Delilah did everything in her power to ensure that Kai would turn out what she considered "better" than Anna. So, Rafe and Kai have been practically betrothed since they were three and four. Rafe's father saw an association with one of the wealthiest families in the whole of the Outer Banks and the most connected family would be beneficial in the future. While Delilah saw a chance for her youngest daughter to marry a Kook.
It was like a transactional arrangement for both families. And both Rafe and Kai knew that. But it did not stop them from actually caring for each other.
It was a real love.
"Agatha was brutal," Rafe said, walking backward a bit as he moved his arm away from Kai's shoulders as he moved to hold her hand.
"Yeah, she was..." Kelce chuckled, agreeing with Rafe.
"Walk normal, you goof." Kai chuckled, making Rafe smirk at her.
"I mean, I just-- I can't get it out of my head." Topper sighed, going back to his constant complaining about the party. "It's just on repeat. "Your move, broski,"" Topper said, looking at Kelce as Rafe continued to drink his morning coffee (that had more than coffee in it.)
"Bro, he had a semiautomatic pointed at your head." Kelce agreed.
"That's what I'm saying. It's insane." Topper nodded, turning to look at Rafe and Kai, who were not at the party.
"Safety off," Kelce added. "That Pogue." He said with a hint of disgust.
"That's insane... The safety was off?" Kai asked as Rafe moved to wrap his arm around Kai's waist.
"They're freaking Pogues, man," Rafe added, looking around them with his sunglasses hiding his eyes. "You know you should get a piece."
"Don't tell him that." Kai slapped Rafe's chest.
"What do you mean?" Topper asked, furrowing his brows.
"You gotta fight fire with fire and defend the homestead. Right?" Rafe continued as Topper looked down, unsure if he should agree with him.
"Yeah. Better than being caught without one." Kelce agreed with Rafe again.
"Don't encourage that." Kai scoffed at the two of them.
"Listen, guys... I-I'm gonna get him back, all right? I'm making it a little project of mine." Topper said, acting like a big, tough guy.
"Yeah, you should." Rafe agreed when Kelce's attention turned to Tannyhill.
"Yo, that's Sarah..." Kelce furrowed his brow, looking toward the water to see Sarah kneeling down and talking to a little girl.
"Oh, so you left her in the boat?" Sarah asked the little girl.
The little girl nodded.
"Okay, can you tell me what she looks like?" Sarah asked, referring to the stuffed animal that the little girl lost. Sarah was trying to help the little girl find her lost toy.
