"I'm gonna go back."

"What?! You can't!" Ashlyn yelled. "If you go back we'll die!"

"If I don't go back Tyler dies!" she yelled back and Ashlyn finally saw how panicked she was. "Now when I stop the car, you take the wheel! Understand me?!"

"You want us to leave you?!"

"I'll save Tyler. Just. Keep. Driving!"

Ashlyn hesitated for a second before nodding.

Bonita nodded back and slowed down slightly before serving into the field that Tyler had fallen into.

"Switch!"

They quickly jumped out of the car and Ashlyn climbed over into the driver's seat and sped off.

With her night vision (I guess you could call it) she could see the car no matter how far it got. She could also see where Tyler was desperately hanging onto a branch.

'I can't leave them.. like he did!'

Just as he let go, hoping to wake up before he hit the ground, a hand grabbed onto his. He looked up to see Bonita looking just as scared and frazzled as he was.

"Bonnie?"

"C'mon." She pulled him back up and let out a shaky breath.

"Where are the others?"

"Still driving." she huffed. "I needed to save you first."

"Right. Thanks."

"Don't thank me, anyone would've–"

"Bonnie." They looked up at him and he gave them a hug. "Thank you."

"...you're welcome."

That was when they heard it. The monster had left the others and was heading to finish its job.

"Get behind me."

"But—"

"NOW!" He rushed behind her, neither commenting on how much taller he was, as the monster came into view. "I'll distract it and when it's focused on me, you run."

"You can't sacrifice yourself–"

"Tyler!"

The others rushed into the gas station, hoping Bonita and Tyler were okay, that she had gotten there in time, that when they woke up... they would wake up too.

Tyler nodded as it stopped in front of the two of them.

"Hey, remember me? You're the one who ruined my life so I'm here to return the fucking favor!"

Throwing caution to the wind she ran at it letting out her claws and slashing at one of its arms. It screeched a horrible noise that Ashlyn could hear from the gas station. Black blood spurted everywhere.

It tried to grab her but she jumped out of the way swinging up on a close tree branch. She jumped through the trees as it kept reaching for her until eventually she was at the top.

Nowhere to go but down...

Shit.

At least from here she saw Tyler running back the way she had come. He was safe, that was what mattered.

I did it.

And that's all she could think when the phantom pierced her stomach with its talons and pulled her toward its mouth.

I saved him.
