april 2, 2023juniper steps off the plane, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves as she enters the bustling arrivals lounge. her glasses sit perched on her head, pushing back her loose waves, and a cozy scarf is wrapped around her neck, warding off the london march chill. it's been a whirlwind decision—one minute she was catching up with louis's younger sister, millie, over texts, and the next she was booking a flight to london to catch up with her and their older sister issie. now, here she is, finally back in the city where so much has happened.
she clutches her phone in one hand, her thumb hovering over the screen as she contemplates sending a text. part of her is still in disbelief that she's here, about to see louis after so many months apart. it's been ten months since they last saw each other, ten months since they ended things for good—or so she thought.
juniper glances around the crowded lounge, searching for a familiar face. her heart skips a beat when she spots issie in the distance, waving enthusiastically. beside her, a tall figure with dark, tousled hair stands, his back turned toward juniper, gazing up at the arrival board. she can't see his face, but she knows that stance anywhere.
it's louis.
taking a deep breath, juniper pulls her suitcase behind her and makes her way toward them, each step feeling heavier than the last. she's excited to see issie and millie, of course, but the thought of facing louis after all this time, after everything they've been through, sends her heart into a tailspin.
as she gets closer, issie runs up to her, pulling her into a warm hug.
"juni! i can't believe you're here! it's been way too long!", issie exclaimed, a wide grin on her flushed face.
juniper hugs her back tightly, grateful for the familiar warmth.
"i know! i've missed you so much, is," juniper sighed, realising how much she missed the girl like a sister.
issie pulls back, grinning from ear to ear, before glancing over her shoulder at louis.
"i'm sure someone else has missed you too...", she teased.
louis finally turns around, and the moment their eyes meet, it's like time stands still. he looks just like she remembers—sharp jawline, intense brown eyes, and that effortlessly cool vibe that always made her heart race. but there's something different about him too, something she can't quite place. maybe it's the slight tension in his shoulders or the way his smile doesn't quite reach his eyes.
"june."
juniper feels a flood of emotions—relief, nostalgia, and a bit of that old, familiar longing that she thought she'd buried months ago. and of course, he called her 'june.' everyone else opted to shorten her name to 'juni' or even 'juju' sometimes, but louis insisted on nicknaming her 'june.'
"louis... hey," she spoke breathlessly.
for a moment, they just stand there, caught in each other's gaze, the noise of the airport fading into the background. issie, sensing the tension, clears her throat and steps back, giving them some space.
"i'll give you two a minute. i'm just going to grab us some coffee," issie grinned cheerfully.
she darts off, leaving juniper and louis alone in the bustling heathrow airport. the silence between them is thick, heavy with unspoken words.
