jack stirs awake, his body instinctively reaching out for juniper, expecting to find her still nestled in his arms. but all he feels is the soft cushion of the couch. his heart skips a beat, a momentary surge of panic coursing through him as his eyes blink open to find the space beside him empty.

he sits up quickly, his head spinning at that, the blanket that had been covering them slipping to the floor. his mind races with a dozen possibilities, but before he can let worry fully set in, he hears it—a familiar melody drifting through the house.

the soft strains of taylor swift's 'lover' float from the kitchen, a gentle, comforting sound that instantly eases jack's nerves. curious, he stands and makes his way toward the source of the music and the delectable smell of food, his heart still beating a little too fast.

as he rounds the corner, the sight that greets him stops him in his tracks.

juniper is in the kitchen, her hair slightly tousled from sleep, wearing one of his oversized flannel shirts that hangs just past her thighs. she's moving around with a carefree grace, dancing lightly on her feet as she flips pancakes on the stove, her hips swaying to the rhythm of the music. on the counter beside her, strips of bacon sizzle in a pan, the smell of breakfast filling the air.

jack leans against the doorframe, his arms crossed on his chest, a slow smile spreading across his face as he watches her. there's something incredibly endearing about the scene—so domestic, so natural. it's like they've been doing this for years, falling into an easy rhythm of morning routines together. he's completely mesmerized by her, the way she moves, the way she hums along to the music, the way she seems so at home in his space.

for a few moments, he just watches, soaking in the sight of her, a warmth spreading through his chest. then, unable to resist any longer, he steps forward.

"morning," he says softly, his voice cutting through the music.

juniper jumps a little, turning around quickly with a spatula still in hand. when she sees him, her face lights up in a radiant smile that makes jack's heart skip a beat for a different reason this time.

"good morning," she replies, a slight blush coloring her cheeks. "i didn't mean to wake you. i just...wanted to surprise you with breakfast."

jack steps closer, his gaze soft and full of admiration. "you didn't wake me. but this..." he gestures to the spread of food and the sight of her in his shirt, "...this is the best surprise i could've asked for."

juniper's blush deepens, and she laughs lightly, a bit self-conscious. "well, i hope you're hungry. i might have gone a little overboard."

jack shakes his head, reaching out to gently take the spatula from her hand and setting it on the counter. "you're perfect," he says quietly, his voice filled with sincerity. he cups her cheek, his thumb brushing lightly against her skin. "thank you."

juniper looks up at him, her heart pounding in her chest as she takes in the softness in his eyes, the way he's looking at her like she's the only thing that matters in this moment. before she can overthink it, she rises onto her toes and presses her lips to his.

jack doesn't hesitate to kiss her back, his arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her closer. the kiss is slow, tender, full of the unspoken emotions that have been building between them. it's a moment of pure connection, where everything else fades away, leaving just the two of them in their little world.
