Chapter 1
A soft breeze brushes against Rotxo's peacefully asleep face, and the sounds of distant Ikran and other creatures begin to fill his ears, making him stir.Comfortably positioned in his mate's lap, lying against him, he wakes, taking in the sight of the others on their Ikran.
Jake has Ronal, who is holding Wari, on the back of his Ikran. Kiri has Tsireya on the back of hers. Neytiri has Tuktirey in front of her. And Aonung is Neteyam's passenger, holding onto him from behind with a tired face.
They're all on their way to the forests of the Omatikaya, for a visit that was planned rather abruptly.
The eldest son of Toruk stood before the village, next to Ronal, decorated from head to toe for his ceremony. The day of his coronation had finally come.
He had already proven himself ready for the leadership role he played, but turning nineteen signified that he was truly a man to acknowledge.
Acknowledgement happens at seventeen, because they become physically capable and more mature in their minds to be treated as such. But, he was still seen as an adolescent who was still growing and still learning.
On the day of his coronation, now with two years of living as an acknowledged adult and leader, he was officially earning his place.
Aonung, a few months younger than him, is still in the position of acting chief, which has made him Neteyam's right hand until he too is officially made an Olo'eyktan of the Metkayina.
About two years ago, Toruk Makto stepped down as chief, and returned to his people, leaving the Metkayina clan in the hands of their heir, and his son. Spider also went with, and Neytiri as well, leaving their children safe in Awa'atlu to be looked after by its Tsahík.
Since then Jake was leading the Omatikayan clan in their ongoing war with the Sky people.
Unbeknownst to his family in the reef, that war was finally won. Which led to his surprise arrival, coincidentally on the day of Neteyam's coronation.
Neteyam stood before his father taller, stronger, and filled with joy to see his parents again. Each of the Sully children had grown, but not too much to be unrecognizable.
Not only was Jake there to express their victory in the war, but he also wanted to take his family home. The only one who is required to permanently stay in the forest again is Tuktirey, being so young.
The teens, however, were more so invited for a visit, rather than to stay. Neteyam can no longer choose to live in the forest, but Lo'ak and Kiri have that choice.
Ronal was invited as well, with her son, Wari. Jake wanted to offer his own hospitality to her on a visit, to express gratitude for what she had done for them with her late mate.
It took a bit of convincing, plus Tsireya setting her baby brother up to ask if he could go, but Ronal ultimately decided to accept. With her good friend, Cin'lan of Paltu, agreeing to watch over the village in her absence, both the Sullys and the head family of the Metkayina are off to visit the forest.
Once Lo'ak notices Rotxo's wide eyes open and alert, a small grin appears on his face.
Lo'ak- Morning, love. Sleep well?
