Chapter 9

ALEXIS'S POV

I got dropped off at my place while the driver and the other lady that came with us went to God knows where. According to them they wanted to stuck up my kitchen. I also gave them a list of things to get for me, I really needed to decorate my room.

After an hour they returned and set up the equipments in the kitchen and informed me they were about to leave.

"Tell my parents I'm doing just great and I love the apartment. It's small and comfy, just the way I love it" I said with a smile.

"Yes ma'am" they both said in unison and bowed their heads before turning to leave. I called them back.

I really don't feel comfortable with all the formalities, boss, ma'am and the rest of them. I feel somehow when my elders bow to me.

"Please could you drop the ma'am title when you're with me?" I asked and the female worker looked at my driver who looked like they were giving each other signs with their eyes.

"That will be a sign of disrespect to you ma'am. You are the only daughter of the renowned chief Aguinyi and we can't just address you by your name" I literally rolled my eyes.

"Fine. Just reduce the ma'am stuff. My name is Alexis or better still call me Adanna. You may leave now". I said dismissing them.

This is literally the main reason I never let people know who my dad was. Back then in secondary I was always so cool, only few people knew who's daughter I really was and that's just cool.

That's the main reason I don't want dad keeping maids with me or servants or drivers or anything. I just wanted to live a normal school life without any drama whatsoever.

I settled down, took my shower and called Stacy. She's not in Nigeria though, she's got admission to a prestigious university in the United Kingdom. I'm really going to miss her a whole lot but it's for the best. At least Raymond is in my school and that's dope. We're not in the same faculty or department so I'm definitely sure I'll be seeing him once in a blue moon but I guess I can cope with that. Raymond and I actually became really close and i love the fact that he's always there for me. The only thing I don't like about him is his big brother vibes, he always scared guys away from me and it's not cool at all.

My alarm clock rang at 6 o'clock so I got up from my bed, said a short prayer and brushed my teeth. I put on my sports outfit which was a grey joggers, a grey nike sports bra and a white trainers. I wore a Nike hair band on my hair because I weaved it. I wasn't a fan of braiding my hair though, it was already very long so I just stick to my wigs.

I took in my appearance in a mirror and shrugged. I'm never missing my morning rituals for anything in the world. I've always been a fan of jogging and I'm one helluva of runner too. I just hope I get to know my way back though and maybe make new friends. I put on my headset and walked out of the house not forgetting to lock my door. Mum didn't fail to remind me that this wasn't an estate that was security tight so I have to make sure my doors are closed and be on the lookout for any suspicious movement.

When I got outside, I realized that the place had apartments which were occupied by mostly students so I guess this place will be interesting after all. I haven't gotten so far and a girl stopped me.

"Hey!" I turned down the music and smiled at her.

"Uh... Good morning" I replied not knowing exactly what to say to her.

"I guess you're new here right?" She asked and I nodded while we continued jogging.

"I actually came in yesterday. I'm a freshman though"

"Same here" she grinned.

"Do you live around here?" I asked.

"Yeah. I'm your neighbor next door. I saw when you arrived yesterday shaa. I'm a freshman too but I've lived around here for sometime so I can show you around. My cousin is in his 400 level too." She added. So much information though but I like her, she seems cool.

That's great. I'm Alexis by the way" I stopped to catch my breath and she made a halt too.

"My bad! I'm Luxury" she said and I looked at her amused.

"Luxury?"

"Yeah" she said and giggled.

"Such a weird name you've got but it's very cool though. Just that I've never heard of someone answering Luxury"

"Asin eh! People around here call me Bekee."

"Bekee? Asin foreign? That's the meaning right?" I asked and she nodded. We were no longer jogging but walking home.

"There was a time I had an argument with a girl here. That was when I came to this neighborhood newly though. I used to stay with my cousin during some holiday breaks. I had boasted to her that they don't call me Luxury for nothing, I told her that I am not someone to mess with and I am Luxury, A.k.a Aku bekee which means foreign luxury" she said in the midst of laughter and I laughed too. Not because I found what she said funny though but because her laughter was quite contagious.

"So that's how they started calling you Bekee? Or should I say Aku Bekee? I asked.

"Yup!" She replied. I love her vibes really!

On the way she greeted a lot of people, some of them looked like thugs and some looked responsible. Others were just probably students, she's the typical extrovert I guess.

"What's your Igbo name? That's if you're igbo." She added.

"It's Adannaya. Adanna for short"

"Nice name. What course are you doing?"

"Pharmacy. What about you?"

"I'm doing the same course, pharmacy!" She said excited. I'm actually excited too. At least I have someone to be with,I just hope she isn't the unserious type because I definitely can't cope with that.

Before we knew it we were at our door. She was my nextdoor neighbor as she said, she got into her apartment and waved at me before locking her door. I just hope all the neighbors are as nice as friendly as she is. The building was just a three storey and seemed to be occupied by singles or mostly students.

Today is definitely gonna be good.

Who else likes Luxury? I really think she's cool though and I hope we get to know her better soon.
