The morning after their patrol, Kenji arrived at U.A. High School, feeling unusually restless. The encounter with Kai had left him with a mix of curiosity and confusion. Kai’s unexpected words had stirred something in him that he wasn’t quite ready to confront. It wasn’t like him to dwell on things, especially not about someone like Kai.

Kenji walked through the hallways, trying to shake off the thoughts. He barely registered the chatter of students as he made his way to his classroom. As he entered, he noticed Shiro sitting quietly at his usual spot, a silent reminder of the previous day's events.

Ren, ever the harbinger of chaos, bounded over to Kenji as soon as he entered. “Dude, did you hear? We’ve got a surprise guest for class today!”

Kenji raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Another hero or pro here to brag about how awesome they are?”

Ren grinned. “Close! It’s a hero who specializes in support gear. They’re going to show us some new tech that might be useful for our quirks!”

Kenji shrugged. “Great. More gadgets. Just what I needed.”

“Come on, it’ll be fun!” Ren insisted, grabbing Kenji by the sleeve and dragging him toward their seats.

As the students settled in, Mr. Aizawa walked in, followed by a tall figure in a sleek, high-tech suit. The hero, known as Gearmaster, was renowned for his innovative support items designed to enhance quirks and combat abilities.

“Settle down,” Aizawa said, his tired eyes scanning the room. “Gearmaster will be demonstrating some of the latest support gear. Pay attention—this could be useful for your training and future missions.”

Gearmaster stepped forward, giving the class a confident nod. “Hello, everyone. Today, I’m going to show you some new gear that can enhance your quirks. We’ve got everything from boosters to defensive shields. Let’s get started!”

Kenji’s interest piqued slightly as Gearmaster began demonstrating various gadgets. There was a new set of gloves that could amplify explosive force, a pair of boots that enhanced speed, and even a special visor that provided enhanced sensory input.

Ren was practically bouncing in his seat. “Dude, look at those gloves! They’re perfect for you!”

Kenji examined the gloves, noting the intricate designs and advanced materials. They looked promising, but he wasn’t comfortable with the idea of support items he felt like he'd be dependent on the item it felt...wrong.

“Yeah, yeah. They’re cool,” Kenji said, trying to sound indifferent.

Gearmaster continued, showing off a gadget that could neutralize certain quirks temporarily. Kenji couldn’t help but think about how much like cheating that felt. He found himself leaning forward, absorbed in the demonstration.

After the presentation, the students were allowed to test out some of the gear. Kenji hesitated for a moment, then decided to try the explosive-enhancing gloves. They felt surprisingly comfortable, and when he tested them, the added force was impressive. They were simple boosters nothing too special, something he was greatful for.

“Not bad, huh?” Ren said, grinning as he zipped around, trying out a pair of speed-enhancing boots. “I told you it’d be cool!”

Kenji couldn’t help but smile slightly at Ren’s enthusiasm. “Yeah, it’s... helpful"

As the class ended, Kenji packed up his things and headed for the door. Just as he was about to leave, Kai walked in, looking as composed as ever. His eyes briefly met Kenji’s, and Kenji raised an eyebrow, acknowledging him.

“What’s up?” Kenji asked, casually.

Kai’s expression remained neutral. “Just checking out the new gear. Thought it might be useful for training.”

Kenji nodded. “Yeah, it’s pretty interesting.”

Kai’s gaze flicked to the gloves Kenji was holding. “Those look like they suit you.”

Kenji glanced at the gloves, then back at Kai. “Thanks. I guess we’ll see how well they work in practice.”

Kai’s lips curved slightly, but it was a fleeting expression. “We’ll be testing some of this gear in our next training session. Might be good to try them out.”

Kenji shrugged, his tone easygoing. “Sounds like a plan.”

Later that evening, Kenji was walking through the park near his home, trying to clear his thoughts. The park was quiet, with only the sound of rustling leaves and distant chatter breaking the silence. Kenji stopped by a bench and sat down, feeling the weight of the day.

Shiro appeared beside him, settling down on the grass. Kenji looked at his silent companion and sighed. “You ever get the feeling that things are changing, but you don’t know how to handle it?”

Shiro tilted his head slightly, his eyes reflecting a mix of curiosity and understanding."I have"

Kenji shook his head. “Yeah. I’m probably just overthinking things.”

Just then, a familiar figure appeared on the path, walking slowly toward Kenji. Kai.

Kenji straightened up, looking at Kai with a mixture of surprise and casual acknowledgment. “Kai? Didn’t expect to see you here.”

Kai’s expression was as composed as ever, but there was a hint of something softer in his eyes. “Just taking a walk. Didn’t realize this was your spot.”

Kenji shrugged. “It’s a good place to clear your head. Join me if you want.”

Kai sat down on the bench beside Kenji, a comfortable silence settling between them. It wasn’t exactly what Kenji had expected, but it was different from their usual interactions.

After a moment, Kai spoke. “The new gear… it’s going to be a challenge to get used to, but I think it’ll be useful.”

Kenji nodded. “Yeah, it definitely will. And it’ll be interesting to see how it changes our training.”

Kai glanced at Kenji, his eyes reflecting a mix of curiosity and something more. “You’ve been pushing yourself a lot lately. It’s impressive.”

Kenji raised an eyebrow. “Oh, really? And how would you know that?”

Kai’s lips twitched into a faint smile. “Maybe people notice more than you think.”

Kenji didn’t respond, but the conversation had shifted to a place that felt less confrontational and more… human. Kai’s presence was still as intense as ever, but there was a subtle shift in their dynamic.

As they continued their walk, Kenji felt a strange mix of anticipation and uncertainty. Things were shifting, and for the first time, he was starting to wonder what might come next.
