The next day at U.A. High, Kenji was feeling a bit more settled, thanks to his evening walk with Kai. The new gear demonstration had stirred up a mix of excitement and anticipation, but it was the subtle change in his interactions with Kai that really had him thinking.
He entered his classroom with his usual cool demeanor, but something was off. Over the past few weeks, Kenji had noticed a strange sensation—an almost tangible presence watching him. He’d felt it most often when he was alone or in quiet moments, like the feeling of eyes boring into him from the shadows. It had been persistent but then abruptly stopped. Now, as he went about his day, he couldn't shake the feeling that it had returned.
Ren was already in the classroom, chatting animatedly with a few classmates. As Kenji approached, Ren’s gaze shifted to him. “Hey, Kenji! You ready for today’s training?”
Kenji raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Yeah, yeah. Ready as I’ll ever be.”
Ren grinned, clearly excited. “Awesome! Today’s training is going to be intense with the new gear. We’ll get to try out everything Gearmaster showed us.”
Kenji shrugged. “Sounds like it’ll be a workout.”
As the class began, Kenji tried to focus on the training, but the nagging feeling of being watched persisted. It was like a constant presence just out of sight, making it hard to concentrate fully. Despite his efforts, the sensation grew stronger.
After the training session, Kenji made his way to a quiet area of the school grounds, needing a moment to himself. He was deep in thought when Kai approached, his red hair bright against the backdrop of the setting sun.
“You seem a bit off today. Everything okay?” Kai asked, his blue eyes scanning Kenji with concern.
Kenji forced a casual smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just a bit tired, that’s all.”
Kai’s gaze was unwavering. “You’ve been acting weird for a while now. I’m starting to think it’s more than just tiredness. Are you sure nothing’s wrong?”
Kenji’s expression changed to annoyance. “I’m fine, Kai. Really.”
Kai’s concern turned into frustration."I’m trying to understand what’s going on with you. It’s not like you to be so closed off and unfocused.”
Kenji’s patience snapped. “You don’t need to dig into my personal stuff. I can handle it myself.”
Kai’s frustration showed. “It’s not about digging into your stuff. I'm trying to be there for you, dimwit”
Kenji stepped closer. “ Just back off, since when do you care anyway?”
The argument escalated quickly, both of them raising their voices. The tension was palpable as Kai’s concern and hurt clashed with Kenji’s irritation. The discussion became heated, their emotions raw and exposed.
Mr. Aizawa, sensing the rising tension, intervened before things could get further out of hand. “That’s enough. Both of you, cool down.”
Kenji took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. As he walked away.
Kai’s expression softened slightly, but he remained firm.
As Kenji walked away he felt a mix of frustration and lingering unease. The confrontation had left him more unsettled than before, and the persistent feeling of being watched still nagged at him. He kept his concerns to himself, determined to find answers on his own despite the unresolved tension with Kai.
As the day wound down, Kenji’s thoughts were consumed by the unsettling presence and the ongoing conflict, leaving him with a deep sense of unease about what lay ahead.
