Not to mention sleeping in a different country, just staying over at someone else's house was enough to make her uneasy. She tossed and turned, unable to get comfortable, waking up several times in her restlessness. By the time the clock struck six in the morning, with her eyes still heavy from sleep, Rhea shuffled off to the kitchen.
The plan for the day was for Rhea to head to a café near their apartment for a weekly meeting with her team back in Indonesia, as well as a meeting with a writer. The weekly meeting was likely to drag on since Ruben had failed to secure the writer collaboration that Okta had been eagerly hoping for.
"Oh my God!" Kayla exclaimed when she saw Rhea asleep in front of the open fridge. "Eonni, go back to the bed." Kayla carefully grabbed a drink, trying not to disturb Rhea.
She glanced at the wall clock. If all went as planned, the weekly meeting would start in four hours. "Just finished working out?" Rhea asked, noticing Kayla's presence, clad in workout clothes and covered in sweat.
Kayla nodded. "There's an online audition today for a sportswear ad from my favorite brand. Wish me luck!"
"Have you had breakfast yet?"
Kayla shook her head. "I need to watch my figure. Maybe I'll have lunch after the audition."
"Don't hurt yourself. If you're hungry, just eat something right away. At least fill your stomach with something," Rhea said before hurrying off to the bathroom.
Her phone rang while she was tidying up her clothes in front of the mirror. A call from Indonesia—who else but her boss? Okta said that the weekly meeting was postponed until after lunch because she had an impromptu meeting with an investor. With that information, Rhea immediately reached out to the writer to see if they could reschedule their meeting.
Fortunately, the writer was fine with the change in meeting time. There wasn't much to discuss between Rhea and the writer, so she decided to hold the Zoom meeting at her apartment and head to the café only when the weekly meeting was about to start. She needed a quiet place for their discussion later.
The sudden change in schedule also led Rhea to alter her plans. She decided to take the bus to the Gangnam area. There was a café highly recommended by many YouTube vloggers—Upper and Under Café, a must-visit spot when in Seoul.
Upper and Under Café was also recommended by locals. It's perfect for relaxed work like Rhea's, thanks to its cozy atmosphere and comfortable setting. Fortunately, it wasn't too crowded that day—there were even just a few visitors, so they could be counted on one hand.
The strong scent of cinnamon filled Rhea's nostrils as she stepped into the café. There were many tempting pastries on display that made her mouth water. But first, Rhea placed her laptop bag in a cozy corner of the café, a strategic spot perfect for an introvert like her.
Rhea decided on the raspberry cream pound cake and mint chocolate. One interesting thing about Korea is that almost all cafés offer Wi-Fi, making it ideal for anyone who wants to work or study while enjoying their coffee.
"So, Akbar wants to get a twenty percent royalty, while we can only offer the standard ten percent royalty to the author," Ruben explained, outlining why he failed to secure the collaboration with Akbar.
"That's crazy! Even well-known authors only get a maximum of fifteen percent royalty," Rhea muttered after sipping her mint chocolate. "Why are you so desperate to bring Akbar to ONE Publishing, anyway?" Rhea threw the question at Okta.
"The investor I'm negotiating with wants Akbar to join ONE Publishing. If we bring Akbar on board, he's willing to invest in our publishing house."
