[ The Hydra ] - [Le sserafim]

It was Saturday, and while Vienna had to attend her classes, Ni-ki had no plans for the day. Despite having no activities lined up, he wasn't in the mood to socialize with friends and opted to stay home.

Upon returning, he found that Vienna had meticulously cleaned his house, leaving not a speck of dust in sight. Lying on his bed, Ni-ki inhaled deeply, catching the faint, lingering scent of Vienna that still clung to the sheets.

The graduation exams loomed on the horizon, and Vienna was poised to leave his life for good. The reality of her departure gnawed at him. Her presence had become a constant in his days, and the thought of her absence was unbearable.

An inexplicable restlessness settled over Ni-ki, like a heavy, suffocating fog.

It wrapped around him, squeezing the air from his lungs and leaving him to grapple with the impending void her departure would create.

Frowning, Ni-ki swung his legs off the bed and moved to the table. He picked up the Bible that Vienna had often thumbed through while practicing her narration.

Opening the book, he flipped through its delicate, worn pages with a distracted air, his mind far from the text before him.

As Ni-ki turned back to his room, a peculiar sight caught his eye. The two ducklings that had been in the shoebox were now lifeless, their tiny bodies ravaged by rats.

With a heavy heart, Ni-ki swiftly dealt with the remains, disposing of both the ducklings and the shoebox.

A swirl of conflicting emotions stirred within him. Resolving to buy two new ducklings the following day, he hoped Vienna wouldn't notice the replacement, and that the new arrivals would fill the gap left by the tragic loss.

He dozed off unexpectedly, jolting awake as evening approached. With a sense of urgency, he quickly dressed and sent a text to Vienna. Just then, faint rustling noises from outside the shutter doors caught his attention.

Leaving his phone on the Bible, he moved to the doors and lifted them, revealing a stunning woman standing before him.

It was his mother.

A chill crossed Ni-ki's face as he took in the sight. His mother, momentarily taken aback, had clearly not anticipated finding him home at this hour.

"I came to pick up a few things."

Ni-ki remained silent, shifting aside to let his mother enter. She walked briskly into the house, heading straight for the cupboard where she began packing her clothes into her suitcase.
