Forward Operating Base "Naggiar" (Gallian controlled)
Time: 0530 hours
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At FOB "Naggiar", the final preparations for the enemy's last stronghold are in full swing. Many suspected this to be a dream, especially for the Gallians, but for the Germans, the remaining KFOR units (some have already been recalled as the threat level has dropped significantly) and the US forces protecting the various border installations as a goodwill measure until the Gallians have rebuilt their Border Defense Guard from the ground up, kudos to the American liaisons helping them under their arm.
A briefing was currently being conducted as the last Gallian-occupied structure and compound was now within arm's reach, the Citadel of Ghirlandaio. The Citadel was the main border defense structure built during the early days of the medieval era as a measure of defense against the militaristic, autocratic, and highly aggressive neighbors, acting more as a deterrent than an actual defense structure, as it was clear from the start that this would be the first target. It was also used as a storage facility for chemical warfare weapons manufactured during the First European War, with the idea of firing mortar shells during the siege of the Citadel, thus destroying nerve systems and brain function, though fortunately it was never needed.
Cpt. Varrot began the briefing. "Thanks to the victory at Naggiar, our forces have pushed the enemy back to the border. The Imperials are currently holed up in the Citadel of Ghirlandaio."
"Ghirlandaio..." Welkin mumbled, remembering the history about this ancient border defense star-shaped fortress, surrounded by impassable hills and built in a tight alley. A crucial checkpoint for commerce routes to the East since the medieval times, the pass of Ghirlandaio had been fortified for ages. The existing structure was rebuilt as a modern fortress during the First European War, littered with the casualties of the war. In the current war, it housed the Empire's command center (which you have seen during cutscenes in-game, if you ever wondered), and now it stood as their final stronghold. "What's our strategy for attacking the citadel, Captain?"
Looking for any reports or orders, Varrots looks from the table and faced Welkin with a stern but grumbling face. "Hmm... I still haven't received any details on our orders from above yet."
This was confusing for many, including the German field-promoted Brigadier, as he was already scheming a plan on simply using the available Pzh 2000s and Rhbs for softening the local enemy force and sending remote-controlled UGVs to clear out any bunkers or pillboxes that survived the artillery strike. But, before he could his idea, the entrance of the large tent lifted up and in came the General von Deamon. "What is he doing here?"
"Oh, stop your worrying, Varrot," says the General in a rather dominant voice, "I came here by myself to give you your orders."
The Cpt. and the Lieutenants immediately saluted, but the German Brigadier didn't as he was against saluting foreign officers, even on their home turf, if no respect was given back, no matter the circumstances. "General Damon? I'm honored, but why not just send a messenger?"
"Your regiment really showed 'em up, out there on Naggiar."
"HMPH"
"Eh- Oh, right... though without the help of our friends from the other world this could have gone worse. Anyway, in return, I'm granting you the honor of assaulting the citadel at the van of the army."
"Knew it, he wants to remove anyone that could threaten his position by using his last diminishing powers of his rank," thought in silence the Brigadier, secretly recording all of this with an audio recorder.
