Where Have You Gone

Chapter 28

Same park, same place, same bench and same day. I am still there where you left off. It's been five years since you left. Not a single day goes by that I don't think of you. All the way I went looking for you ended somewhere.

I cry every day thinking that no matter what I did, the truth is I lost you, and I will cry forever.

I just wanted to ask you one thing. The love, care, concern affection... Everything seems so real to me, till now. Just say yes! Say everything is true. Say that is love. Say yes Sam!

Becky smiled bitterly.

I don't even know whether that's your real name, but still, you're Sam to me. Forever my Sam.

The rain continued to drizzle, and so did the tears of Becky. She still couldn't come out of anything.

It's been more than three hours now, the rain had stopped.

Friend calling..

The voice assistant in Becky's phone recited nonstop till Becky answered the call.

"Babe, where are you? Are you still at the park?"

Becky could hear the amused voice of Friend from the other end.

"How many times have I told you not to call me babe? What do you want now Friend?"
Becky asked with fake anger.

"Chill girl, have you forgotten about the babysitting plan this evening?"

That's when Becky remembered that she had to pick up Anne from the school day and had to babysit her until Irin and Richie came back from the hospital.

"Oh, God!! So sorry I was... I.." Becky stuttered

"It's okay, girly; we still have time. You just wait at the entrance of the park I'll pick you up from there".

Friend disconnected the call after asking Becky to wait.

Becky smiled thinking about Friend. It's been nearly five years. Becky has lost her vision; all she can see is light and shadow, but not much. She could differentiate between day and night

When she started to lose sight, it was very gradual. Becky clearly knew something was wrong with her sight, but she didn't want to address it at that time. Her only focus was to get some leads to reach Sam.

When everything was a dead end, she decided not to tell anyone about her vision, but she couldn't manage to hide it. Irin noted the changes and finally found the truth.

But Becky had different plans, she decided not to take any treatment. She does want to see the world where she couldn't find her Sam. Becky's parents were so devastated after knowing her decision.

Irin and Richie believed that they could convince her after some time. They were wrong Becky was so stubborn in denying any kind of treatment. A year went by with struggles, depression and anxiety. Finally, Irin convinced Becky to undergo supportive therapy to adapt to her life with no sight.

Becky understood that she needed help to live the life without vision. It is something that she has never experienced. That's when friend came to the picture. Friend is such a good soul, she became Becky's personal trainer and then they became best friends.

A year back, Friend proposed to Becky during the Christmas Eve dinner in front of her family. Everyone in Becky's family was happy and wished Becky could say yes, except Irin. Because no one knows Becky like her.

When Becky was silent Friend got her answer. She promised to stay as a friend till her last. Friend still has the love for Becky but she respects Becky's decision.

Becky heard friends car horn and knew she was there. Friend opened the passenger door for Becky to get in.

"Are you okay?" Becky asked friend after the unusual silence during the ride.

"I'm okay, Becky. I'm just worried about Anne's reports. I understand how difficult this is for Irin and Richie. At least this time, everything should go well".

"Hmmm... It will". Don't worry Becky consoled her.
