STACY

I am Stacy D'Lamini Gnah, and right now, I cannot believe my ears. Well, I can. I am just choosing not to.

I have known Anya for the better part of my life, and even though she is younger than me by a month, she is still the big sister I never had. She has magic. Literally. And only uses it for good stuff. Like fixing the house or getting mom's cat from the tree. But what I am listening to is not what my sister does with her abilities.

Maggie is our tomboy butler. She looks about thirty-five but is really old. I heard that she used to go to galas with my grandfather in his youth days. I never pressed the topic, but it felt so weird that slow ageing did her so good and not him.

I am currently in the house assigned to us in Royal Peak Academy for the FREAKING RICH, and I am listening to something beyond my very weird life.

"The barriers are in danger. I was supposed to give you all at least a year, but I did not think that Greenwood would move so quickly. Anya, we are going to have to speed up the arming procedures." Maggie said with the straightest face on earth. Her green eyes now darker, her shoulder-length brown hair—well, hairy, and most of all her slight Russian accent deadly.

What a load of crap I have ever heard!

Anya, who was standing amongst us by the door, had a shocked expression as she moved forward to meet Maggie. About three steps away. "What are you talking about? You said we had time..." she looked...horrified. Is this situation that bad?

I felt Kenny slip his hand into mine. We always did this since we were kids; it meant that he was worried about something. But what?

"I thought so too until I got word from my guys that there was a redhead on Fifth that was looking for The Archer." Maggie then touched Anya's shoulder, "It is time."

After some hesitation, Anya nodded her head slightly, then turned to us. "Living room. Meeting. Now." Then she proceeded to do so herself.

After sharing some strange looks, the remaining eight of us found our way to the huge couch and bean bag area and sat. Oddly quiet. It was ten in the night, and I was not sure what to expect, so I had to ask, "Is this a good sort of meeting or are we in trouble?"

The moment I said those words i heard a loud groan, " John...what is it this time?" Seth asked his bigger(by size) twin.

"Tell me you did not flirt with the staff on the first day..." Caleb cackled.

John hesitated a bit, bit his lip, then asked with a squint, "What if I did...?"

Another loud groan, but this time, even I did so. This guy has no brakes, does he? Royal Peak expels for that kind of behaviour.

"Okay! Silence!" Maggie said a loud. Did not actually shout. "The meeting is not for John's lack of a cock-block but rather something more..." she seemed to struggle looking for the word.

"Petrifying?" Anya offered.

"Yes, that one." Maggie fixed her three-piece Peaky-Blinder wannabe suit and stood at attention, then added to our hopeless-looking faces, "We are going to study magic!" she added excitedly.

There was a short silence until Anderson chirped, literally in a tiny voice, "Pardon my French, I thought I heard magic."

"Yes, you did." Maggie clarified with a smile. "You have perfect hearing like all the Stims I knew before you."

"What is going on, Anya?" I asked, starting to panic as a memory hit me. One of the house being attacked by some evil guy on Anya's birthday.

I did not notice I was breathing fast on my bean bag when Ray touched my shoulder and looked at me, concerned. His dark eyes asked the unsaid question, and I nodded. He did too and went back to his seat on the carpet. "I am gonna take a wild guess and say that this 'Greenwood' is a bad person, and we are supposed to learn magic to defend ourselves against him?" Ray asked.

Anya sighed deeply, "Yes and no." She stood next to Maggie, who was about three inches taller than her, "We were selected to aid in battle."

I went blank. What?

"OH YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!" Willow went off. She looked like she was demented. "I have kept it together for the last ten hours, but this is the final shit show I can take in!"

"Willow, calm down..." Kenny said, and she descended on him.

Looking from everyone's scared faces to Kenny's, "Repeat that!? Are you not seeing this?" Gesturing at all of us, " This is crazy. My day was fine. Then I see Anya levitate someone, two fist fights where the last ended badly, then we get a magic portal which coughs up my boss I worked with for six years, so yeah, I deserve a medal for holding it in that long." She starts panting.

I personally understood where she was coming from, but the more logical side was there, too. We just had to find it. Through the loud murmuring, I asked, "Is there a good reason that it is us you want?"

Silence broke again as we all looked at the two for answers, "We kept tabs on you all since you were born. All of you have powerful but forgotten history. Louis gave me the duty of making every one of you know this, get your ancestry and defeat the enemy. Simple. But difficult too." Maggie explained.

" And what ancestry are we talking about?" I asked cautiously to hear the answer.

"The eight clans of the barrier beyond. You are all related to them as descendants. It is not a coincidence that you all fortunately joined the programme. We searched for pure bloods, and our list was slimmed to sixty per cent pure bloods. And you all have above that. These eight clans live beyond this dimension and we have the tech to cross over." Maggie explained, "The thing is that at your status of ability, you will not survive even breathing the barrier air. We have to get you crystals, which we call Gems. I will explain everything later."

When she said that, the doorbell rang. We all looked as Kenny went to get it. It was Sunny, our cousin, who happened to be the P.E teacher. "Guys, it is midnight. Everyone has lights out."

We looked uniformly shocked at the time, but when we looked back, Maggie was gone.

"Well?" Sunny growled, "Get to bed!"

We scattered because Sunny was not so sunny when he's angry.

I did not sleep.
